Calder | O’Keeffe

Hauser & Wirth’s (Hauser & Wirth - Art Gallery) new Palo Alto space opens with an exhibition pairing Alexander Calder and Georgia O’Keeffe, two giants of American modernism whose work has rarely been seen together.

Different mediums, same pursuit: giving form to the unseen energies that shape the world around us. O’Keeffe distilled the Southwest into paintings of striking clarity, while Calder turned gravity and air into sculptures that move. Side by side, the paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and archival materials reveal how much they share in their approach to abstraction, movement, and space.

Quiet moments deserve quiet art.

In this serene bath, Simon Roberts’ (Simon Roberts) Somerset, courtesy of Flowers Gallery, does what the best works do: it sets the tone for the whole room. The soft, fog-veiled coastline echoes the blush walls, pale stone, and sculptural tub, turning a daily ritual into something closer to a retreat.

Swipe to see the work up close. Roberts photographs the British seaside with a patient, observant eye, and here the Victorian pier emerges from the mist like a held breath. The muted palette of grey, rose, and sand is what makes it so at home in this space.

Art in a bathroom? Absolutely. Moisture-safe framing and a considered placement can bring a gallery-level work into the most personal rooms of the home.

Fantastic evening with Jean-François Bélisle, Director & CEO and Josée Drouin Brisebois, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art of the National Gallery of Canada , organized by Mandeep Roshi Chadha at the Mount Royal Club.

Slight mishap with the fire alarm only added to the fun of the event where we learned how the National Gallery of Canada builds a collection for the nation.

David Lynch: LA

Lynch arrived in Los Angeles in 1972 and stayed for more than fifty years. This fall, Pace Gallery (Pace Gallery) in LA is showing his photography in the city that shaped him, the first presentation of his work there since his passing in 2025.

Five photographic series are shown together for the first time, spanning 1979 to 2008. There are smoky, tightly cropped faces from Figures and Smoke, black and white nudes that melt the body into landscape, the multiplied odalisques of the Couch Series, and deadpan Kits photos of a disassembled fish, chicken, and duck. Plus portraits of LA itself: industrial edges, overlooked corners, and that cinematic haze.

Los Angeles was never just a backdrop for Lynch. It was a feeling, and these images get right to the heart of it.

A goldfish that’s labelled soup. A Mona Lisa made of peanut butter and jelly. A chair built from stuffed pandas.

None of it makes sense at first glance, and that’s exactly the point of our new blog post.

Kids look at art without worrying whether they’re “getting it right.” They just observe, wonder, and imagine, and it turns out that’s the best way to look at some of the strangest, most playful works in art history too. This month we’re exploring why.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🟠

It is a day to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, to honour survivors and their families, and to reflect on the ongoing work of reconciliation.
