MONTRÉAL | EXPOSITION EN COURS

Quelques photos de l’oeuvre monumentale « Evacutate », présentée dans l’exposition « Lumière » de Wanda Koop.

« Tout aussi planétaire, une peinture monumentale d’un soleil rouge ancre l’exposition sur son mur central. Immense champ chromatique, elle agit comme un nerf à vif du regard et de la sensation. Son point insistant perce le brouillard et veille sur les lunes, les yeux mi-clos et les chandelles vigilantes qui traversent l’exposition, autant de symboles d’attention et de résistance silencieuse. Autour de cet œil se déploie une brume orange et grise. Comme le suggère le titre Evacuate, ce brouillard renvoie à la fumée des incendies de forêt qui ont ravagé le Manitoba durant l’été 2025, forçant le déplacement de plus de 33 000 personnes. Sous des ciels enfumés et dans un climat d’inquiétude grandissante, nous passons de l’intimité d’une chandelle vacillante à l’éclat lointain d’une torchère pétrolière, puis inversement. »

« Equally planet-like, anchoring the show on its central wall, is a monumental painting of a red sun. It is a vast colour field, a round, raw nerve of seeing and feeling. Its insistent dot peers through the fog, supervising the show’s moons, half-closed eyes, and vigilant candles, symbols of watchfulness and quiet resistance. Surrounding the eye is an orange-grey haze. This fog, as the title, Evacuate, intimates, is the smoke from forest fires that raged throughout the summer of 2025, displacing 33,000 people across Manitoba. Under smoking skies and with growing unease we shift from the intimacy of candlelight to the flick of a distant oil flare, and back again. »

Un essai sur "Mille spéculations" (2017) de Michel de Broin dans le nouveau numéro de la r***e Espace, consacré au thème de la lumière.

« Et si de Broin était en train de proposer une tactique esthétique, un effet de camouflage? Et si les “spéculations” de l’œuvre n’étaient pas ses miroirs (specula), mais les spéculations de la ville avec ces tractations financières bien trop quotidiennes durant lesquelles les promoteurs immobiliers cherchent à acheter à bas prix et à revendre en réalisant un profit? An essay on "Mille spéculations" (2017) by Michel de Broin appears in the latest issue of Espace magazine, dedicated to the theme of light.

« What if de Broin is proposing an aesthetic tactic, a camouflaging effect? What if the artwork’s “speculations” are not its miroirs (specula) but, instead, the city’s speculations, the all-too-quotidian financial activity wherein real estate developers seek to buy cheap and sell high? « Cabral de Luna has made of memory a divinity. Drawing from symbols of his upbringing, he constructs a system of display that illuminates what is sacred to him. Divinity for Ernesto is not only found inside a house of worship, it is also in the hands of the women who peel the chiles, Xochimilco, and in the touch of two masked bodies. Les peintures de l’artiste Walter Scott sont actuellement présentées dans l’Espace Projet à Montréal. Passez cette semaine pour voir l’exposition "Two things can be true".

Mardi au vendredi: 10h à 18h
Samedi: 10h à 17h

« Dans Two Things Can Be True, certains codes issus de la bande dessinée sont repris : les bordures ainsi que les marqueurs de progression laconiques « SO » et « THEN » sont intégrés dans des compositions de scènes épurées. Les œuvres dépeignent parfois des espaces liminaux et austères, parfois des objets isolés. Des notes de post-it, faisant écho à des pensées fragmentaires, rappellent les morceaux de papier retrouvés dans l’atelier de l’artiste. Nous nous retrouvons alors face à une forme d’intériorité émotionnelle. Vases, verres à vin, flaques de liquides sombres et autres iconographies composent un ensemble d’images spéculatives, dépourvues de présence humaine. »

« In Two Things Can Be True, certain codes drawn from comics are reactivated: borders and the laconic sequential markers “SO” and “THEN” are integrated into sparse, distilled compositions. The works at times depict austere liminal spaces, at others isolated objects. Post-it notes, echoing fragments of thought, recall scraps of paper found in the artist’s studio, bringing us toward a form of emotional interiority. Vases, wine glasses, pools of dark liquid, and other iconographic elements compose a set of speculative images, often devoid of human presence. »

"Paintings that begin with an X" est la première exposition individuelle de l’artiste Elaine Stocki dans notre galerie.

« Les peintures empruntent à des codes visuels associés à la dévotion : palettes chromatiques riches, textiles lumineux et formes simplifiées évoquant le corps. Les œuvres reflètent inévitablement mes désirs, mes peurs et mon état émotionnel au moment de leur réalisation, me révélant quelque chose en retour une fois achevées. Fondamentalement, je crois que le rôle de l’artiste consiste à absorber les tensions du monde et à en proposer une interprétation esthétique. Dans cette perspective, le moment actuel constitue une période particulièrement éloquente pour créer. J’aime considérer ces peintures comme de petites allégories utilisant le langage visuel de la spiritualité afin de questionner les hypocrisies dissimulées derrière certaines postures morales. » - Elaine Stock

"Paintings that begin with an X" is Elaine Stocki’s first solo show at our gallery

« The paintings draw on visual tropes associated with devotion: rich colour palettes, luminous textiles and simplified forms that evoke the body. The works inevitably reflect my desires, fears, and emotional state during their making, revealing something back to me upon completion. Fundamentally, I believe that an artist’s job is to absorb the tensions of the world and create an aesthetic interpretation. With that in mind, the current moment is a particularly cogent time to be making work. I like to think of these paintings as little allegories, employing the visual language of spirituality to question the hypocrisies embedded in moral posturing.» - Elaine Stocki

Quelques images de l’exposition "Lumière" de Wanda Koop, actuellement présentée à la galerie

« Ici, les peintures de planètes rouges, vertes et dorées de Koop semblent presque annoncer le voyage d’Artemis. Elles évoquent des lévitations majestueuses, des mouvements atmosphériques en rubans et l’équilibre cosmique qui régit nos existences terrestres. Si ses œuvres antérieures contemplaient la lune, ces nouvelles peintures semblent désormais évoluer dans l’espace lui-même. Regroupées sous le titre Untethered, elles fascinent par l’impression d’apesanteur et l’immensité des corps célestes en mouvement. »

L’exposition sera présentée jusqu’au 25 juillet 2026.

They describe majestic levitations, swirls of ribbon-like atmosphere, and the cosmic equilibrium that governs our earthly lives. If her earlier paintings gazed moonward, these new works spacewalk. She has named them the Untethered series, and they spellbind with the weightlessness and immensity of planets in motion. “
