Kamloops Art Gallery The Kamloops Art Gallery The Kamloops Art Gallery offers inspiring, provocative, and transformative art experiences of national caliber.

Located in Secwepemcúlecw , it is the largest art gallery in the Interior of British Columbia and boasts a collection of over 3,000 works of art. With more than 12 exhibitions every year, they offer diverse, accessible, and affordable experiences including talks, tours, and studio-based programming for people of all ages and abilities. The Kamloops Art Gallery was incorporated and opened in 1978.

It is the principal Gallery for the visual arts in the southern interior of British Columbia. The Gallery is committed to the belief that art is an essential part of the human experience. It is dedicated to making this belief tangible within the communities it serves.

Kamloops Art Gallery Curator, Charo Neville, will be joined by exhibiting artists Justine A. Chambers and Luciana Freire D’Anunciação along with dance artist and curator Jenn Goodwin and Vanessa (VK) Kwan, Director + Curator, Libby Leshgold Gallery at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Together, they will discuss the rich relationship between dance and visual art and explore why embodied practices in the gallery are more imperative than ever today.

Congratulations to Samuel Roy-Bois on being nominated for the 2026 Sobey Art Award longlist, alongside 29 other outstanding artists from across Canada.

The Sobey Art Award is Canada’s pre-eminent award for contemporary Canadian art. In addition to the $100,000 prize awarded to the winner of the Sobey Art Award, each of the five short listed artists are awarded $25,000 and $10,000 is awarded to each of the remaining long listed artists.

Samuel Roy-Bois lives in the Okanagan and is Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan. His interdisciplinary practice spans installation, sculpture, and photography, examining the built environment, vernacular practices, and art as an emergent phenomenon.

Samuel Roy-Bois has a meaningful history with the Kamloops Art Gallery. In 2019, his solo exhibition PRESENCES transformed our central gallery with an ensemble of constructed and found objects that reflected on contemporary material culture. Through architectural structures and everyday objects, the exhibition invited viewers to consider how human experience is shaped by the manufactured spaces and things around us. We are fortunate to have Samuel’s work in our collection as well.

Join local lens-based artist Jess Beaudin in our studios to explore alternative black-and-white film photography processes!

Thursday, June 4
5:00 to 7:00 pm
Ages 12+
By donation // registration required at kag.bc.ca/studio

Learn how to load film or photographic paper into a camera, create your own photographs, and develop them using Caffenol — a lower-toxicity photographic developer made from common household ingredients.

Once developed, participants will scan their work and leave with both physical negatives and digital prints.

All materials will be provided, and some film cameras will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own film camera if they have one!

Join artist Luciana Freire D’Anunciação for a two-day movement workshop!

Experience the creative process behind, Becoming, Luciana’s multi-screen video installation featured in the exhibition Dancing through to the other side.

Through the written word and embodied exploration, participants will explore their experience of memory and impermanence by responding to one another and creating movements together.

This workshop is gently guided, and open to participants of any level of experience and ability.

ABOUT THE ARTIST ⬇️
Luciana Freire D’Anunciação (she/her) is a Brazilian-Canadian dance and performance artist who develops interdisciplinary works with video, photography, visual art, theatre and poetry. With a Master in Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Simon Fraser University, her work focuses on the themes of creative reciprocity and the interconnectedness of body, environment and community. Her work has been presented at festivals and residencies across North and South America and Europe, including Vancouver International DanceFestival, Visualeyez (Edmonton), European Performance Art Festival (Poland), Deformes Festival (Chile), and PA-F (France).

New Cube Gallery Exhibition ⬇️

The Pit
Nasim Pirhadi
May 16 to September 5, 2026

In a new body of work, The Pit, Nasim Pirhadi transforms the architecture of The Cube to resemble a traditional Iranian gym, known as a zurkhaneh (meaning “house of strength”). Pirhadi’s recreated space allows access to all genders and belief systems, defying patriarchal tradition, which forbids admittance to the zurkhaneh by women and non-Muslims. Speaking to the patriarchal values of her Iranian homeland and the actions women like herself are taking to overcome these barriers, The Pit offers a site of resistance, contemplation, and strength.

The Pit will be open to view starting May 16 in the Cube Gallery, which is always free to view Tuesday to Saturdays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Thursdays 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

How can you support students today? ⬇️

We believe that all students should have equitable access to this fundamental learning experience, without costs creating a barrier to participate.

Kamloops Art Gallery is looking to raise $20,000 annually in support of offering fully funded field trips to the Gallery for elementary school children (grades K to 7) across all four school districts.

With your support, we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate.

It is the last few days to see Futures!

The final day to see Rajni Perera’s Futures is this Saturday May 9! This is a must-see exhibition with works spanning from 2019 to 2026. Rajni Perera came to Canada with her family in childhood from Sri Lanka, and in the years since has established herself as one of Canada’s leading contemporary artists.

For more information on Futures visit the gallery this week Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00pm with extended hours on BCLC Free Thursdays 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been able to see the exhibition so far. We appreciate all the comments we’ve received both in the guest book and from conversations we’ve had with our visitors. It has been a joy seeing all the responses by visitors on our walls in the engagement space too!

Enjoy a selection of juices and snacks, learn more about what we have to offer and get inspired by – or join – our vibrant youth art community!

This is a welcoming and respectful space, 2SLGBTQIA+ safe, and an Indigenous inclusive environment. Open to everyone aged 13+.
