This September, the Secwépemc Museum is opening its doors with free admission all month long, generously sponsored by BCLC.

Take your time exploring our exhibits, learning from the stories and knowledge they hold, and connecting with the history of the Secwépemc people and this land.

Whether it’s your first visit or a return trip, we invite you to come in, look around, and discover something new.

Please note that the Archives will be closed September 9th to 15th.

The Kamloops Museum and Archives preserve and provide access to the rich history of Kamloops and the surrounding area. The Archives hold a treasure trove of photographs, documents, and artifacts related to the diverse heritage and stories of our community.

The Archives, located on the KMA's second floor, provides a quiet and comfortable space to access our collections. Our curatorial team is available to assist with your enquiry and direct you on how to access archival material. To contact the archivist directly, email [email protected].

ESCAPE THE SMOKE with the KMA!

Rewind the clock exactly 33 years to see the CBC Broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies, hosted by a young Ron McLean, hosted in Kamloops. Iconic Kamloops imagery is interspersed with music and interviews, along with classic CFJC local commercials.

At the Kamloops Museum and Archives, Indigenous history is recognized, explored, and honoured throughout the year. While June provides an opportunity for many Canadians to reflect during National Indigenous History Month, our commitment to ethical stewardship, learning, and relationship building extends far beyond a single month.

The City of Kamloops and the Kamloops Museum and Archives are honoured to be located on the ancestral unceded territory of Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc, and we recognize that the cultural belongings in our care represent the living cultural heritage of the communities they come from.

Our work as ethical stewards means more than preservation. It means amplifying the authority of descendant communities, centring Indigenous voices, knowledge, and resilience in the stories we share, and thoughtfully addressing the colonial legacies embedded in museum practices. It means listening, learning, and building relationships grounded in respect, reciprocity, and collaboration.

A key part of this work is our ongoing partnership with the Language and Culture Department at Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and the Secwépemc Museum and Heritage Park. We are grateful for the knowledge, guidance, and collaboration that help shape our approach to collections stewardship, interpretation, repatriation, and community engagement. Honouring Indigenous histories, cultures, and contributions is not limited to a specific month. It is an ongoing responsibility and an important part of how we care for collections, tell stories, and serve our community every day.

As part of our exhibition ENCORE! The KSO at 50, celebrating 50 years of the Kamloops Symphony here in Kamloops, the Kamloops Museum and Archives captured the voices of people who are part of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra’s past, present, and future in a series of intimate interviews.

Experience the full interviews, along with artifacts, images, and interactive elements, in Encore!, where Kamloops’ music history comes alive, and visitors are invited not just to look and listen, but to participate.

Whether you’re a lifelong symphony-goer, a music lover, or simply curious about your community’s cultural heritage, this exhibition offers an engaging and celebratory experience that resonates across generations until January 2, 2027, right in Downtown Kamloops

Happening tomorrow!

Join the Kamloops Museum and Archives for drop-in summer sessions of Music at the Museum. Caregivers and little ones are invited to sing, dance, and play in a hands-on, music-based session. Weather permitting, sessions may be held outdoors.
