UNESCO recognizes sites worldwide that bear witness to the histories and enduring legacies of slavery. In 2024, Africville was officially designated as Canada's first UNESCO Place of History and Memory linked to Enslavement and the Slave Trade.

The Africville Museum continues to uphold this legacy by sharing our history, educating the public, and honoring the enduring spirit of our community.
