Unfortunately, I have to be the bearer of sad news: we are going to be closed for some time as we deal with the very complicated issues of finding out how this will play out and how things will be covered, as this is a complicated situation with a number of parties involved. I wish I had better news, and I am absolutely gutted. I am reliving this nightmare over and over again and am now facing the entire loss of my income while this is resolved. I do have insurance, the landlord has insurance, and the tenant has insurance. I am currently meeting with Dal Legal Aid so I can learn my rights in all of this, and hopefully this will get resolved quickly and will be a short closure. Everything is up in the air though, and I am hoping that we can figure out a way through all of this. If you need tea, please consider making purchases on our website, www.teapothecarytea.com . I want to thank everyone that has reached out for all the people placing orders online, you are all amazing, and I will start getting those prepped and out tomorrow. I am taking the rest of today off as a mental health day, and also to deal with my insurance company. So thank you everyone, this is a nightmare and I will fill people in more about what is happening and all, but I also am dealing with the landlords, police, and an assisted living program and I am not even sure what I am allowed to say about what I have been dealing with for months. I am really struggling right now, and if anyone has referrals for a commercial real estate lawyer that would be willing to give me a free or low cost consult so I can also figure out what my options are right now I would greatly appreciate it. Please share and keep up the love and support, my poor little business is in a hard place right now and I am feeling like I am drowning and losing everything all over again. So I am taking some time away from the internet and going to try and garden to help get some sun and plant therapy, I can’t stop crying and I am absolutely feeling so lost. So I am not sure when we will be open again at this point, I hope we can get things sorted quickly. I will go into more of what lead up to all of this, this is the second flood of the day and the third time it has happened within the past 2 days. This is what a mental health crisis looks like. I am honestly just crushed right now and absolutely just want to cry for a month. I don’t even know what to say…I will let everyone know when we will reopen. I am gutted.

*****EDIT: The situation has gotten much worse and unfortunately we experienced a third catastrophic flood (first the day before, one overnight, and the third around 3:30 Sunday afternoon) while we were open and customers were in the shop. Due to this and the extensive damage, including ceiling collapse in places the shop is now closed while we figure out how to move forward and repairs can be handled. The individual responsible will hopefully be removed within a week. What this means for the future of the shop, what role my insurance and the landlord will play is still being sorted. I am still able to sell in my website and will be fulfilling wholesale orders for now, but will most likely need to find a new location to continue operations from temporarily as quickly as possible. This is a nightmare. ************

We are now open again as of 1:30 on Sunday July 26th until 4pm today. We will be suspending the sale of doing on the spot custom blends as well as selling any tea leaves or ingredients/herbs/dried fruit and such by weight as we need to do a deep clean and full sanitation of that station before we can resume that service due to the flooding. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I do not often beg or call out for support, but our little shop could really use some extra sales and support right now as we recover from the 5th major flood incident (2 of them in the past 2 days caused by an upstairs tenant). The costs and closures are adding up and I will post more about this situation in the next day. If you love us we need you right now, please consider coming by the shop and supporting us and our artists, or making an online purchase from our website. We have been dealing with something really heavy and big here that until now I have not disclosed, and it is deeply affecting our ability to run the shop. Please help, share, and support. I created this installation for Halifax Pride week here at the Teapothecary because I wanted to do something meaningful in these hard times. Come visit our remembrance wall and Pride bricks. The wall contains just a small fraction of the names of people taken from us during the AIDs epidemic. The Bricks are resistance but also contain the names of q***r and trans people that have been murdered here in Canada. Would you like to add a brick to the wall of resistance? Can we make it taller? Would you like a name added to our memorial? Do you have a friend or family member who the world lost due to Homophobia or AIDs and want to see their name honoured and added? So the Teapothecary is a q***r owned business and we are so excited it is Halifax Pride week! It is a special time for us! The shop will be opened this week, did you know that more than 60% of the artists and artisans at the shop identify as 2SLGBTQ+. Our teas and many of the items in our shop supports q***r businesses.
