Don has been a valued volunteer at The Hangar Flight Museum for nearly three years. Known for his calm, reassuring presence and kind nature, Don makes a positive impact on everyone he meets; staff, volunteers, and guests alike.

As a dedicated member of our Education Team, he has played an important role in supporting countless school field trips, helping bring aviation history to life for young learners. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of aviation and experience in Air Traffic Control, Don generously shares his expertise through teaching, mentoring, and inspiring those around him.

For National Indigenous History Month, we’re highlighting the story of Annieapik Weetaltuk, Canada’s first Indigenous flight attendant.

In 1958, Annieapik Weetaltuk joined TransAir in Manitoba, becoming a trailblazer in Canadian aviation at a time when Indigenous representation in the industry was almost nonexistent. Known for her kindness and experience working with people, she often flew aboard the iconic DC-3 on both public and government routes.

Her story is one of resilience, achievement, and the important contributions Indigenous people have made to Canada’s aviation history.
