We are very excited to share that our Relocation Garage Sale Extravaganza has gotten a little bit bigger!! Along with 30% discounts on all of black cicada studios stock and yes this includes handmade pieces.

We will now have a live DJ set by the very talented .art !! They will be spinning their vinyl records on Saturday the 20th!!

Catch this little woven wonder as part of final sale next weekend and we celebrate and toast to the last 5 years of the studio. Come on down to the studio on the 20th - 21st of June to see this brooch and many other items looking for their new homes!

The creation is one of the pieces made by the very skilled who in this piece used a combination of bought / salvaged wires from tvs, a swim cap and a stretch band. All materials were destined for landfill till they were transformed.

We will be hosting a Studio Garage Sale in collaboration with and & yes there will be some discounts of ‘s handmade pieces 👀😍

Our closure will only be temporary as we have already found our new place to emerge, in Dulwich Hill from August.

It’s with a heavy heart that will we must announce that Black Cicada studio will be heading under ground like our name sake for a short time while we relocate the studio!

But don’t fear this hiatus is only temporary and will be relocating to a new spot in the Inner West!
Lucas will also still be able to see jewellery clients during this time.

Get your calendars out because on our FINAL WEEKEND is the 20th - 21st of June & we are having a STUDIO GARAGE SALE!!

We will be joined by
who will bringing a whole heap of their wonderfully upcycled pieces.

As well as setting up a table with fabulous upcycled jewellery and collage cards.

So join us for a farewell drink and celebrate the last 5 years of designing, exhibitions and creations from our crafty community.

This handmade 18ct yellow gold and platinum ring was a ring I made around the late 90’s. The client revisited me at the studio recently as over the years general wear and tear had caused the 2 bands to separate from each other. Now it was time to restore this ring to its former glory. I began by cleaning up the 2 bands separately and polishing out any scuffs or marks. Then got to work aligning the bands to recreate the “Split Wave” & soldered the bands back into place. A final polish and the ring was ready to head back home to the client to once again be worn.

Smith is a legend in the Inner West Upcycled Community with a flare for restoring abandoned pieces with a Retro and Midcentury style. All their works are hand restored utilising 2nd hand materials!

These wonderfully woven vessels by make for the perfect little trinket bowls
Each is intricately designed and woven using a variety of 2nd hand and bought wires, old food packaging and ribbons. A beautiful way to repurpose items otherwise destined for landfill!

This handmade 18ct yellow gold pendant was a remodelled piece that was created from 2 rings a client brought to the studio to be redesigned. Both rings were simple solitaire designs; with one ring, bezel set with the cabochon Star Ruby and the other ring was bezel set with a round brilliant cut Diamond. We finalised a traditional bezel design with both stones set atop one another to create a pendant that keeps a similar refined style which the client loved.

These handmade pearl earrings were commissioned by a client of the studio as a gift for her granddaughter
The client brought these Fresh Water Baroque pearls with the idea of creating a stylised cap and hook for the pearl. We also decided on a slightly longer shepherds hooks to give this earrings a more elongated feel. Custom pearl caps were made to fit against the pearls natural curvature. I hand filed and polished each platinum cap to create this refined and timeless ensemble.

Lately I’ve had the opportunity to create some musically inspired pieces as well as receiving a visit from a Piano piece I designed and a Treble Clef earring, I made many years ago .
Occasionally I get to enjoying crafting pieces relating directly to people’s interests creating a strong connection between the client and their new piece of jewellery
This Piano originally had the bail sitting at the back but with the current chain it was on would fall slightly forward when wearing. So, this provided the perfect opportunity to update the design. I moved the bail to the top of piano and styled it look like a candelabra
