Alongside Pasar Malam, participating artists Leyla Stevens and Ida Lawrence also present works at WFAC. Stevensโ€™ GROH GOH Rehearsal for Rangda reimagines the Balinese mythological figure Rangda through a contemporary feminist lens, while Lawrenceโ€™s A Bigger Misha explores themes of connection, memory and migration through layered narrative painting informed by experiences across Australia, Indonesia and Germany.

This grant is sponsored by ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐’๐ก๐š๐ฎ๐ฅ to reward the successful applicant 100% of the $3,500 fee for the Indonesian Art Study Tour 2026 (13-21 June 2026).

The purpose of the grant is to provide ๐š ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐  ๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ (35 and under at tour commencement) with the opportunity to gain greater knowledge of Indonesian contemporary art, through the connections and experiences afforded by the nine day tour. The aim of the grant is that the successful applicant will carry the knowledge gained on the tour through to the wider Australian curatorial community, fostering greater understanding of and appreciation for Indonesian visual art and its societal and artistic roots.

The successful applicant will be required to arrive at the tourโ€™s start point in Denpasar, Indonesia and return from the end point, Yogyakarta by their own means.

Grant applications close four months prior to the commencement of the tour (13 February 2026) and will be announced 7 days thereafter.

Held annually for members of the Australian visual arts community seeking to engage deeply with the Indonesian art scene, the tour visits private museums, commercial galleries, collectives, art spaces, artistsโ€™ studios and fair VIP programs. The tour also includes an education program with presentations by local art historians and curators.

Participants typically include museum personnel, curators, academics, artists, gallerists and collectors.
