Running rivers : People of Place

This exhibition brings together selected works from Pigments of Place and People of Place, offering a retrospective reflection on Running Rivers: a body of work created over four years across Sri Lanka and Australia. Though produced at different moments and in different places, these works emerged through the same vein of inquiry, each deepening and extending a way of thinking cultivated through sustained engagement with rivers.

EMU EGG PAINTING WITH AMBER

Please join us this NAIDOC week for an Emu Egg painting workshop. You will learn the story of Barraeemal (The Emu) in BoonWurrung Culture. The different traditional uses of Emus and the part they play in recognising the changing BoonWurrung seasons.

Emu eggs are delicate so this workshop is appropriate for children 8-10 (with adult help) and 11-16 tweens/teens.

BIO:
Amber is a proud BoonWurrung young woman who was born and raised by the bay. Amber is an artist and dancer who learns and performs with BoonWurrung Ngargee Youth Dance. Amber has participated in workshops at Linden including Brave Young Artists, was part of establishing the Children’s week Gallery Sleepover and was on the Kid’s Consultative Committee for over 3 years. Amber also won a Sculptural Encouragement Award in the Linden Postcard Show 2024 and won an award in the Koorie Heritage Trust- Young Mob-Koorie Art Show in 2025.

Linden New Art is delighted to announce leading Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung artist Maree Clarke as the judge of the inaugural Linden Projects Space Early Career First Nations Artist Opportunity.

Linden is offering one subsidised exhibition for an early-career First Nations artist as part of the Linden Project Space 2027 program, which is currently open for expressions of interest. Link in bio to website with more details and entry form.

As part of Linden New Art’s commitment to providing a platform for First Nations artists, we are delighted to offer a subsidised exhibition for an early-career First Nations artist as part of the Linden Project Space 2027 program. The successful applicant will be selected by leading Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung artist Maree Clarke, whose work, Long Journey Home: We Are Still Here, was presented as a large-scale commision on Linden’s facade earlier this year.

A Gentle Order: Practices of System, Memory, and Material
Linden Projects Space
28 May - 28 June 2026.

This exhibition explores the delicate balance between fragility and structure. Suspended metal frames both support and release clusters of finely crafted ceramic forms, each carrying traces of language, memory, loss, and care. At its centre is the idea of “systematic gentleness,” which guides both the concept and the making of the work. Viewers are invited to slow down and notice subtle tensions between weight and lightness, order and vulnerability. Meaning unfolds gradually through repetition and proximity, rather than direct explanation. Within these seemingly rigid structures, the work opens a space for quiet attention, where fragility is not only protected, but becomes a way of understanding and holding onto what might otherwise be lost Vivian Chow
