CALL OUT ๐Ÿ’ก

Applications are now open for the Linden Projects Space exhibition program 2027.

Linden Projects Space is a purpose-built gallery space dedicated to providing artists and curators of all career-levels a supportive environment to test their ideas, experiment, and exhibit their work.

Programmed each year by an open and equitable proposal call-out process, Linden Projects Space presents a diverse, free-to-visit, rotating exhibition program of solo, collaborative, and curatorial projects. We welcome proposals for projects that are critically-engaged, conceptual, cross-disciplinary, site-responsive, participatory, challenging, innovative, and discursive.

Since the Linden Projects Space opened in 2019, it has afforded artists the freedom to explore, experiment and take risks with their work. It expands the sphere of contemporary practice, championing emergent forms of art making and critical exchange.

Applications close Sunday 5 July @ 11:59pm

An auction record was set last night for Linden alumni and supporter Reko Rennie โ€” and we couldnโ€™t be prouder.

This result speaks volumes about the power of Rekoโ€™s practice: his unflinching exploration of Aboriginal identity and the subversion of its romantic ideologies. Art is about so much more than money, but moments like this remind us how urgently this work matters.

In true Reko spirit, he has partnered with Linden to create an exclusive limited-edition print for our 40th anniversary, and his generosity goes further. Proceeds will directly establish a new First Nations commission series at Linden, creating lasting opportunity for fellow First Nations artists.

Only 40 prints. One for every year. And only 25 left.

โœฆ $2,000 unframed / $2,400 framed

This is your chance to own a work by one of Australiaโ€™s most significant and sought-after First Nations artists, while directly supporting the future of brave new art.

Buy art. Support artists. Wake up every morning to something that will make you smile for years to come. ๐Ÿ–ค

Further information about the work can be found at Lindenโ€™s website.

โ€œA scenario tensions the speed of reflections as they occur, and the repose of reflecting itself.

How can the actual movement of light and colour across space be located beyond our perception, yet we can see an image resting here, knowing it comes from there?

And when we observe such links, how might they then compare?

What do encounters of sight, colour and sound add up to, when separated and sequenced across time?

Maybe, in narrating across such sensed memories, each translation we trust inserts nothing but a sped-up millisecond, while each allusion we doubt seeks to entirely slow such a flow.โ€

Last chance to get up close with Andrรฉe van Schaikโ€™s ๐™๐™š๐™˜๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ก๐™–๐™œ๐™š๐™จ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™‹๐™–๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™จ in person.

Beneath the visual playfulness, van Schaikโ€™s works unravel the logic of commercial imagery, disrupting its original intent through unexpected recompositions. As Kirsten Rann writes, the artist has developed a โ€œhighly aesthetic anti-aesthetic to critique or parody the originally intended commercial, societal and/or political uses of her chosen imagery.โ€

In a time of endless scrolling, these works create a disrupted way of seeing, where fragmented forms, negative spaces, and disjointed arrangements resist easy interpretation.

Exhibition runs till 29 March. Plan your visit before it closes!

St Kilda based artist Andrรฉe van Schaik presents a series of intricate photomontages and paintings that transform fragments of mass media imagery into distinctive new compositions. Drawing from fashion and design magazines, advertising material, and other found commercial imagery, van Schaik cuts, collages, and paints these elements to create mesmeric and unexpected visual encounters.

Through playful juxtapositions of colour, line, texture and pattern, van Schaik invites our eyes to take the lead, dancing through many aesthetic possibilities while our minds give over the need to make sense of it all.

On view until 29 March.
