A tree stands alone, bare branches gnarled from age. And yet, it still stands, bearing witness from the changes that are happening in its surroundings. The minimal background brings our eyes towards the intricate shapes in the bark patterns and knots: Though an old tree, it is these elements that make it so striking. While the spindly branches above create an eerie feel, this is balanced by the sinuous form of the trunk, the roots reminiscent to the folds of a gown. There is an elegance to this tree, as well as a sense of perseverance that adds to its charm. In a world that often favours youth and novelty, Julie's work challenges us to see the beauty and value in the old as well.
We are in our final weeks of the "Life Stages" exhibition! If you're interested in seeing something different, be sure to drop into The Hut this weekend. We are open from 11am-4pm.
