15 Years and still waiting.
Thanks to all for your messages and concern. We had a building that was used as a Resource centre, freeing up the Museum. Knox City Council demolished it as "Stage 1 of Ambleside Masterplan" and replaced it with these "temporary" workspaces for our volunteers.

Did you know that as well as our current maintenance challenges at the Homestead, Knox Historical Society volunteers have been working in areas over the site including in a windowless shipping container and an old Vic Roads hut put there as a "temporary measure" by Knox City Council 15 years ago?
We recently met with Knox Council CEO and staff, Mayor Kennett, Cr Baker and State election candidates Clare Fitzmaurice, Julie Buxton and Max Williams to advocate for funding for a new Visitor & Resource Centre.
The plans have been drawn.
The planning permit has been issued.
We have been patient, but 15 years is long enough.
Our volunteers deserve better.

Two months on and the leaking roof is still not repaired (innovative contraption to catch the water) and Ambleside remains closed to the public until further notice 🥲
Good news is our volunteers are still awesome!🤩

Update: Ambleside will be closed to the public for the next few weeks due to urgent maintenance

25/07/2026

Councils fix, to fix the fix that previously didn’t fix the fix, has failed yet again and Ambleside is closed until further notice as the roof still leaks.
Thank you for your understanding 🥲

With Boronia Station due to get its latest facelift, we thought you may enjoy these advertising souvenirs from the KHS collection showing the "electric train entering Boronia Station" in 1926.
Who remembers Page's Estate Agency?

Councils contracted repairs unfortunately failed and Ambleside has water damage.
Yet again, we are closed to the public until further notice.
Apologies 🥲
