Good attendance at our 61st AGM with Mayor Cr Paige Kennett, Crs Baker, Duncan and Williams and a wonderful presentation by Anita Walker on the history of the Ferntree Gully Hotel. Also in attendance, candidate for Rowville, Max Williams who has been a member of KHS for a few years. Max along with Clare Fitzmaurice (Liberal candidate for Monbulk) and Julie Buxton (Labor candidate for Bayswater) all visited Ambleside last month, to learn first hand regarding the "temporary" facilities for the past 15 years and the vision for the future. All committed to advocating to Government for funding a new Resource & Visitor centre if they were successful and we appreciate their support.

Commencing Monday 5th October, Ambleside will be closed to volunteers and public for approximately 5 weeks while Knox City Council repair the roof which has been leaking for months.

Knox Historical Society recently rescued a very large, very heavy iron Knox Coat of Arms that was languishing forgotten in a shed at Millers Homestead. It has now been cleaned and will go on display once we are up and running again. The "Armorial Bearings of the City of Knox" was granted 2 June 1980 and "presented in the name of Her Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Second, by His Excellency The Honourable Sir Henry Winneke, Governor of Victoria". It was received on behalf of the City of Knox by Cr Wally Tew, MBE, JP Mayor on 20th March 1981.
In coming weeks we will explore the symbolism and meanings of Armorial Bearings as noted in the decree.

15 Years and still waiting.
Thanks to all for your messages and concern. We had a building that was used as a Resource centre, freeing up the Museum. Knox City Council demolished it as "Stage 1 of Ambleside Masterplan" and replaced it with these "temporary" workspaces for our volunteers.

Did you know that as well as our current maintenance challenges at the Homestead, Knox Historical Society volunteers have been working in areas over the site including in a windowless shipping container and an old Vic Roads hut put there as a "temporary measure" by Knox City Council 15 years ago?
We recently met with Knox Council CEO and staff, Mayor Kennett, Cr Baker and State election candidates Clare Fitzmaurice, Julie Buxton and Max Williams to advocate for funding for a new Visitor & Resource Centre.
The plans have been drawn.
The planning permit has been issued.
We have been patient, but 15 years is long enough.
Our volunteers deserve better.

Councils fix, to fix the fix that previously didn’t fix the fix, has failed yet again and Ambleside is closed until further notice as the roof still leaks.
