From 30 August – 5 September, you’ll find our amazing volunteers out and about across our community, raising vital funds to support the families of veterans.

Every donation, every badge purchased and every conversation helps us continue our promise: to ensure the families of those who served are never alone.

Military Reflection

Reflecting on the many years, since ANZACs first became;
There’s much that now is different, but much that stays the same.

There’s still a price for liberty, so we can choose our path.
There still are those who go to war and pay on our behalf.

There still are those who sacrifice and leave loved-ones behind.
So we can have the right to vote and speak what’s on our mind.

There still are those who face a foe and fight in foreign lands.
In hopes that we’ll be terror-free and safe from evil hands.

There still are those who take a wound and live with daily pain.
Their battle is a lifelong thing; their price for freedom’s gain.

There still are those who give their lives and break their happy home.
There still are grieving boys and girls – and partners all alone.

So keep in mind our wounded vets and families of the lost;
They’re still the ones who bear the bulk of freedom’s daily cost.

Remember freedom has a price – we’re in our soldiers’ debt.
Remember to remember – lest we all forget.

Vietnam Veterans Day

18 August AKA the Battle of Long Tan Anniversary, commemorates Vietnam Veterans Day.
On this day we say thank you to almost 10,000 Australians who served throughout 1962 - 1972.
With almost 3,000 wounded and 524 KIA, we reflect and honour the sacrifices made and acknowledge those who still carry the physical and emotional scars of service.
We proudly stand by our veterans and their families.
Lest we forget.

For the next couple weeks in addition to our shop we will be selling Legacy items.
You can see the set up in front of our Admissions Office. Purchases can be made through the QR Code or with cash.

Legacy has been running since the 1940s and supports the Widows and Children of our lost veterans.
Small donations make BIG impacts, thank you for your contribution.

About 40km into a 500km mission, Nancy Wake said her legs felt "like hot lead". She still had hundreds of kilometres to go, and couldn't look exhausted because German patrols might become suspicious.

It was 1944, and French Resistance leader Nancy had volunteered to undertake an intense bicycle ride through Nazi-occupied France to restore contact between the Resistance and London after vital communication links were lost.

Despite the brutal feat she was undertaking, exhaustion was a luxury she couldn't afford to show. German patrols and checkpoints dotted the route, and any sign that she was undertaking an unusual journey could attract unwanted attention. Instead, she rode on, maintaining the appearance of an ordinary woman going about her day while carrying a mission that would help reconnect resistance forces with their allies.

It wasn't the first time that Nancy, known to her enemies as 'The White Mouse', would evade capture due to her boldness in the face of danger.

Nancy Wake's story is just one of the remarkable accounts featured in 'Life in the Shadows'. This episode of Through Their Eyes podcast uncovers the spies, secret operations and wartime intelligence that shaped the course of the Second World War.

The Governor of Victoria Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC

We were very fortunate to host the Victorian Governor this morning while on her whirlwind visit to the Albury Wodonga Area.
After a guided tour the Governor spent some time having a cup of tea with our staff and volunteers.
We were able to present her Excellency with a small gift which she promptly informed us would "Go straight to the pool room."
Thank you very much Ma'am for your visit, it was an honour to show you our Grand Old Lady.

APPRECIATION POST:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their ongoing support of our museum.
We have had almost 1,500 visitors through the door since reopening 2 Jul 2026. That has been very humbling for the team here at AMB.
We appreciate our community so much and have missed your smiling faces!!

We at AMB hope all our visitors walk away with a better understanding of Australia's militray history; and we acknowledge the AWMA has so much more to give when it comes to Australia's history as a whole.
