Carrick Hill is fortunate in being one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished. It was a centre of stylish living; and friends hold fond memories of a house constantly filled with laughter, parties, artists, music, good wine, fine food and dancing; and heady with the scent of masses of flowers. While those days

are now gone, Carrick Hill remains as an important example of the lifestyle of two wealthy and cultured Australians of the mid-twentieth century. Welcome to Carrick Hill’s Facebook Community. 🍎 Carrick Hill’s orchard is something pretty special.

With more than 70 varieties of apples, our orchard is the only one of its scale and diversity in South Australia that is open to the public.

Caring for such a diverse collection takes knowledge, skill and plenty of hands-on work. Recently, we were pleased to welcome the Rare Fruit Society, alongside TAFE students, for a day of practical learning in the orchard.

The students had the opportunity to work alongside experienced members of the Rare Fruit Society, gaining valuable skills and learning more about the care and preservation of these wonderful varieties.

It was a great day of sharing knowledge, learning and helping to care for an important part of Carrick Hill’s gardens. 🌳🍏

Sharing memories of Johnnie’s.

The Meet Me at Johnnie’s memory board has been filling up with wonderful stories. From favourite moments and familiar faces to special occasions and everyday experiences, each story gives us a glimpse into the many memories people have of Johnnie’s.

We’re so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to share their story. Every contribution will be preserved as part of the Carrick Hill archives, so these personal recollections can be kept for future generations.

If you have a memory of Johnnie’s, we’d love to hear it. Add your story to the memory board when you visit the exhibition.
