Introducing our final featured artist, Jo Cowell – and what a wonderful way to complete our incredibly talented lineup.

Jo’s work is inspired by the beauty of the natural world and the places that feel like home. Through her expressive use of colour, texture, and thoughtful composition, she creates works that encourage us to pause, reflect, and connect with our surroundings.

HOME GROWN is proudly part of the 2026 SALA Festival, and officially opens tonight from 5:30–7:30pm at SmartArt Gallery. This special exhibition celebrates an inspiring collection of local artists, each sharing their own unique interpretation of what “home” means.

Meet one of the seven talented artists featured in Home Grown, this year’s SALA exhibition at Smartart Gallery – Denise Hojdyssek.

Born in Germany and now based in Adelaide, Denise is an abstract artist whose work is inspired by modernism, mid-century design and the Bauhaus movement. Through layered textures, bold shapes and carefully balanced colour, she creates paintings that evoke mood, movement and a sense of quiet curiosity. Before focusing on painting, Denise worked across photography, styling and visual merchandising, bringing a refined eye for composition to every piece she creates.
