Build a house in the exclusive 'kids only' Concor Building Site, challenge your mind with Puzzling Things, experience weightlessness similar to that of space with a spin on the Human Gyroscope, explore Space with the AstroTrek Virtual Reality Exhibition & Light Room and see and hear science in the Audio Kinetic Sculpture. Enjoy a game of Chess on the Giant Chess set. We offer free internet to all

our visitors. Remember to take a breather and enjoy refreshments from the iCafe. We are a work in progress and currently undergoing a refurbishment! While we are able to offer our visitor the great experiences they have become accustomed to, we will continue to add new and exciting elements to our offering. We are striving to find the support to grow this centre into everything you would expect from a world class science centre and more. We value your visits and encourage your support.

30 teachers from 17 schools from Metro Central, South and East attended the STEM Clubs Network’s 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘛𝘰 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘴 teacher training at the Cape Town Science Centre on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

The programme offered an introduction to what participants can expect throughout the STEM Club journey and highlighted the importance of STEM education and the play-to-learn approach of the CTSC, where curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning are at the centre of every experience. Teachers were encouraged to remember that STEM Clubs are designed to be inclusive and accessible to all learners - not only those who are academically inclined - creating opportunities for every child to explore, discover, and grow.

The afternoon programme also included hands-on workshops focusing on Acids and Bases, where participants experimented with indicators and enjoyed launching rocket poppers while exploring scientific concepts in a fun and interactive way. The session concluded with teachers receiving their STEM Club Starter Kits, equipping them for the exciting journey ahead.

Special thanks to our valued partners from Nature Connect and their Sustainable Schools Hub, who shared valuable insights into the support and opportunities they provide to schools. And thank you to all the teachers who joined us for the 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘛𝘰 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘴 training - we wish you and your learners all the best for establishment of a STEM Club in your school.

The Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Club Network is a provincial programme initiated by the Western Cape Education Department, in collaboration with the Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) that promotes and supports STEM Clubs based in Western Cape schools.

Due to the severe weather conditions and storm warnings issued for the Western Cape, the Cape Town Science Centre will be closed to the public on 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟮 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, in the interest of visitor and staff safety.

The CTSC will reopen to the public and school groups on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

We encourage everyone to remain safe and exercise caution while the severe weather conditions persist.

The Cape Town Science Centre, fuelled by Astron Energy - Pty Ltd, is hosting Matric Masterclasses for Physical Science and Chemistry from Term 1 through to Term 4. Acknowledging the busy academic schedule and workload of Grade 12 learners, the online classes have been scheduled for Saturdays. Invitation letters were sent to school principals, subject advisors, teachers and learners. We begin Term 2 this Saturday, 18 April 2026.

Participants can register to attend the online classes as individuals or as a class. Once they have registered, they will receive email communication with the full schedule, links to the online sessions as well as the Google Drive folder where we will share recordings of the Masterclasses, and the complimentary electronic booklet for each topic. A link to a dedicated WhatsApp channel is also included. If you’re unable to attend the live sessions, you can go through the recordings in your own time.

Discover 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 powered by Sasol at the Cape Town Science Centre’s CODE.CREATE.COLLABORATE. Robotics Open Day tomorrow, 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟭 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. FREE ENTRY for the entire day!

Launched as part of the CTSC’s 25th birthday celebrations last year, The Innovation Studio is a dynamic space designed to equip learners, educators, and the public with critical digital skills for the 4th Industrial Revolution. With hands-on coding and robotics experiences, AI demonstrations, and interactive exhibits, it fosters creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an engaging, future-focused environment.

Speaking to the launch of this new classroom, Sasol Foundation STEM specialist, Mpolai Koloko said, “At Sasol Foundation, we believe that education is the cornerstone of progress. By partnering with the Cape Town Science Centre, we are creating opportunities for learners to engage with technologies that will define the future. The Innovation Studio is more than a physical space, it is a catalyst for curiosity, creativity, and confidence in STEM. Together, we are building pathways for young people to participate meaningfully in the 4th Industrial Revolution.”

** Science Out Loud (SOL) Talk: WHY ARE THERE BASOTHO HERITAGE BLANKETS IN THE INNOVATION STUDIO?

Come to an interactive talk that will thread together a story of how computational methods applied to the making of blankets 200 years ago. Like coding or robotics, these designs use repeating patterns and structure. Small elements combine to create something complex and meaningful. Just as these blankets
weave stories from threads, coding and robotics weave solutions from logic and creativity.

Join us at the Cape Town Science Centre for the second Saturday of our Young Engineers Lab weekend programme.

Step into the exciting world of engineering, where creativity meets innovation. In this dynamic, hands-on weekend programme, young minds are challenged to design, build, test, and improve real-world solutions using simple materials and powerful ideas. From constructing sturdy structures and wind-powered vehicles to explore, participants discover how science and mathematics come together to make musical instruments in the world around us.

Highlights for 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟰 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲:
