Imiso Ceramics Contemporary African Ceramics Our biggest clients have been Galleries and high end retail outlets both locally and abroad.

The company was established in 2005 and is currently owned by Andile Dyalvane and Zizipho Poswa who collectively bring 15+ years of experience in creative design and manufacturing. The main production line for Imiso at the moment is the world acclaimed ceramic range of decorative products using a variety of styles and designs. The production and sale of this range has been the primary source of re

venue for the company accounting for an average contribution of over 80% of total turnover for the company. Imiso as an emerging company is driven to claim a bigger market share of the creative sector in various priority economies around the world but more importantly in the domestic market. We have various strategies that we have implemented to realize this goal. Imiso employs a team of highly skilled artists to create the best possible output at planned intervals in a way that seeks to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the enterprise. Having experienced the recent volatile economic climate that hit the world, Imiso Ceramics has and continues to be a significant player in the domestic craft and design industry. This is indicative of the strength and resilience of the company to external market forces. The craft sector in South Africa has shown significant growth in recent years in both the economic and social spheres. This sector was initially viewed as a pure means of poverty alleviation but has in the last 5 years incrementally been recognized as an important economic sector. Craft and Design in South Africa is recognized by government as one of the priority economic sector mainly as a result of its potential to promote broad based mainstream economic participation by previously excluded groups. Our company has been part of that growth trajectory and has over the years experienced a rapid expansion. We started in 2005 with very small volume production for the local market. Today Imiso is an internationally known company supplying with a countrywide client base and an international market footprint. We currently have a presence in the USA, UK and EU market with strong interest from emerging markets like Angola, Namibia and Nigeria. There is also growing interest for our products in Japan and there is potential to expand within our existing client bases in the US, Canada and Europe.

As we celebrate 20 years of IMISO, we are reminded that our journey has never been ours alone.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of meeting collectors, collaborators, friends, supporters, and fellow creatives from around the world. Through shared stories, conversations, exhibitions, and moments of connection, a community has formed around the work.

These images offer a glimpse into some of the people who have walked this journey with us — those who have welcomed our work into their homes, engaged with our artists, and helped carry the IMISO story far beyond where it began.

On Youth Day, we celebrate the creativity, voices, and stories of young people.

Earlier this year, IMISO had the privilege of participating in the Sit Stories project at CPUT Wellington Campus, working alongside students as they explored identity, heritage, and personal storytelling through creative expression.

Through writing, conversation, music, and making, the project created a space for reflection, connection, and the sharing of lived experiences. It served as a reminder that the future is shaped when young people are given the opportunity to express themselves, honour where they come from, and imagine what lies ahead.

As we celebrate both Youth Day and 20 years of IMISO, we remain inspired by the next generation of creatives, thinkers, and storytellers.

A proud moment for South Africa. 🇿🇦

On 13 June 2026, our co-founder and acclaimed ceramic artist unveils iNkundla (“place of gathering”), a permanent Nelson Mandela monument in Tromsø, Norway. Commissioned by Tromsø Municipality, the installation honours Mandela’s legacy through a space dedicated to dialogue, reflection, peace, and human connection.

Rooted in isiXhosa traditions and enriched by cultural exchange between South Africa and Norway, iNkundla stands as a powerful symbol of gathering, remembrance, and shared humanity. We will also be joined by for the official unveiling.

20 Years of Colour, Pattern & Form.

As we continue celebrating 20 years of IMISO, we reflect on the creative journey of co-founder .

Rooted in her background in textile design, Zizipho’s work has long explored the relationship between colour, pattern, texture, and form. From delicate hand-pinched vessels bearing the imprint of the maker’s touch to richly layered surfaces inspired by the abundance of South African flora, her work is a celebration of experimentation, play, and craftsmanship.

Across two decades, her visual language has continued to evolve while remaining grounded in a deep appreciation for beauty, making, and storytelling through clay.

Twenty years ago, what started as a shared vision among friends grew into something far greater than any of us could have imagined.

IMISO, meaning ‘tomorrow’ or ‘the future’ , was founded on the belief in creating what is yet to come — shaping possibility through creativity and storytelling. Over the years, that vision has travelled far beyond where it began.

As we celebrate 20 years of IMISO this month, we look forward to sharing moments from our archive, milestones along the way, and the people who have helped shape this journey.

To everyone who has collected our work, visited our spaces, supported our artists, collaborated with us, and believed in our vision — thank you for being part of the story.

Today we honour where we come from.

At Imiso, being African is not simply an identity — it is a living connection carried through memory, ritual, language, ancestry, and the act of making by hand.

Through clay, we continue conversations that existed long before us, shaping stories of belonging, spirituality, heritage, and contemporary African expression.

Our practice is rooted in honouring the wisdom of those who came before us while imagining new futures through creativity and craftsmanship.

As we celebrate Africa Day, we celebrate the beauty, resilience, diversity, and spirit of this continent that continues to inspire the work we create and the stories we carry into the world.

From Cape Town to homes and collections across the globe — thank you for walking this journey with us.
