Defiance, Desire, and the Female Form
At first glance, Wycliffe Mundopa and Jan Neethling belong to different generations and geographies. Yet, in these two specific works, they speak the exact same language: one of bold femininity, vulnerability, and a fierce refusal to be tame. These are not passive muses; they are women who own their narrative, rendered by two of the continent's most assured hands.

Jan Neethling (South African, b. 1938) – Calendar Girl Two (2009)

Neethling counters with a brilliant blend of graphic intensity and cheeky pop-satire. His "Calendar Girl" striking a theatrical pin-up pose amidst an explosion of crimson and emerald, subverting the traditional idealized gaze.
Wycliffe Mundopa (Zimbabwean, b. 1987) – New Women V (2013-2014)

Mundopa plunges us into the raw, nocturnal energy of Harare. His figure stands defiantly in a polka-dot dress against a vibrant green backdrop—a striking icon of modern urban nightlife.
