Jen Coleman’s heart, laughter, and passion for education have enriched the mission of the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum for far longer than the five years she has been on our staff. From serving on our teacher advisory board and bringing students here on field trips as a classroom teacher to the magic she has created at the museum while serving as our catalyst an educator these last five years, Jen is a vibrant and important member of our Museum family. During her five years at the museum, she mentored teens, befriended families, created hours of camp and classroom fun, enriched the work of teachers, and wore some pretty incredible costumes along the way! Beginning October 5, Jen will be moving to a new phase in her career journey, starting a new position at American Public University as an admissions counselor, following her passion of promoting education, but to a new population! Her time helping to mentor high school and college students here at the museum has inspired her to change her educational focus to new college students. We know that her excitement and ability to build strong relationships will serve her well in this new role. While we are happy for Jen as she embarks on this exciting new phase of her life, she will be greatly missed here at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum. Jen‘s last day is October 3. We know that her enthusiasm and passion for playful education and wonder has made a huge impact on our visitors here at the museum. We invite you to stop in and wish Jen well this coming week or share your favorite Jen story in the comments below. Please join us in thanking Jen Coleman for her passion and commitment to the mission of the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum

More creative work coming out of summer camp at the Discovery Museum! A huge shout out to Abi Gomez for guiding these children through the process of self-expression, creativity, and sizable mural painting!

WINCHESTER — If you like the mural that has been on display at the former Winchester Towers site for the past year, you’ll love its sequel.

I've noticed businesses are doing fun pack purchases for a future visit to their place of business. A zoo was offering some toys in a bundle from their gift shop for $50 and tossed in a complimentary 1 day family pass to their zoo to use in the next year and the shipping was paid by the consumer. Could you start something like that with some of your gift shop swag? I'd purchase one.
Any field trip forecast for this week?
who are the first founder of the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum ?
My family and I love your place! We visit often and have even had our oldest two daughter's parties there. I wish there was just 1 more thing there....as a friendly suggestion....an infant/toddler area. Padded and enclosed. Somewhere safe to let the little ones down to play. 😊 Thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work!
