Open Now! Call for Art: Blue Hour

There is a fleeting moment each day just before sunrise or after sunset when the world is washed in blue. Streetlights begin to glow, shadows soften, windows flicker to life, and familiar places feel transformed. Known as the “blue hour,” this in-between time carries a sense of stillness, nostalgia, mystery, and possibility.

ShenArts invites artists to explore this atmospheric transition through Blue Hour, a community exhibition celebrating the many emotional, symbolic, and visual interpretations of blue. From deep indigo skies and moonlit landscapes to cobalt abstractions, quiet interiors, water reflections, memory, longing, calm, or connection, artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly and creatively.

🎨✨ First Friday is about to get even more creative.
Applications are now open for Boscawen Artist Alley, a one-night celebration of art in motion happening during August First Friday in downtown Wi******er. We’re looking for artists, makers, and creatives to transform Boscawen Street into a vibrant corridor of creativity where the community can meet artists, watch work being made, and experience the creative process up close.

Want a booth or tent space? Apply now.

Not interested in setting up a tent? We’d still love to have you! Artists can apply to give a live demonstration of their craft throughout the evening—whether that’s painting, printmaking, fiber arts, ceramics, carving, illustration, or something entirely your own.

Want to do both? You can!

⏰ Applications close June 17, so don’t wait to submit.

Help us celebrate the landscapes, places, and people that make the Shenandoah Valley and Wi******er so special. Our Valley invites artists of all mediums to share their unique perspective on the community we call home.

Selected works will be featured in the ShenArts Gallery throughout July, including during Wi******er's Fourth of July celebrations.

One year ago, we opened the doors to the ShenArts Gallery—and what a year it has been.

Join us on Friday, June 5 from 5–8 PM as we celebrate a year of art, creativity, and community in the heart of downtown Wi******er.
