In 1864, composer Luigi de Perini wrote The Adieu, a piano march honoring Capt. Richard Worsam Meade II as he left USS North Carolina for his next command.

More than 160 years later, the sheet music still survives — and now you can explore the story behind it, see the original score, and hear what the music may have sounded like.
