Local historian Richard Gifford, has focused his powers of deduction supported by an encyclopedic knowledge of this region’s history, to identify local African American and Native American individuals who served in the Revolutionary War. He has identified veterans not just by direct local residency, but by family connections (spouses, siblings, children) and ancestral ties to the Acoaxet tribal lands, capturing the fluid movement of marginalized communities across town lines of Westport, Dartmouth, Tiverton, and Little Compton. Oct/Nov/Dec Lees receipts can be dropped off at the Bell School. Please leave at entrance around the side of the building! Thank you!

To all of our Community Partners Program members/affiliates... We're doubling up for the next few months.

For those who may not be familiar, many local non-profits are part of this program. They collect Lees receipts from those affiliated with the organization and each month turn them in to us. We issue a check for a percentage of what was submitted. We're doubling what's turned in for October, November and December. Find a participating organization to contribute your receipts to or register your non-profit... This program can have a real impact (over $800,000 donated since we started it)!

An unexpected discovery in a very interesting collection of Acheson farm archives. Published in 1964, one tip is to grow potatoes. What do you remember about growing up under the shadow of possible nuclear attack? Were there fallout shelters in Westport? Do you remember a warning siren? Did you have to shelter under your school desk? How did it make you feel?
