The Old Bridgewater Historical Society was formed in 1894 with the objective to collect, preserve and publish material relating to the history of the original settlement of Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Although our museum building is located in West Bridgewater, our focus encompasses all the Bridgewaters -- including East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Brockton (originally North Bridgewater), and Bridgewater itself.

CAN YOU HELP US WITH THIS QUERY?

We received a query online, but since we're closed, we don't have the means to research it properly. Does anyone know anything that will help?

A gentleman asked the following:

"I am hoping some one could help me or point me in the direction regarding the history of what I think was called the Old Sportsmen's Club, of which the empty building currently resides at the end of Hammond Street in Bridgewater.

I've heard stories that the building had been moved from somewhere else. I've heard that it was a Portuguese American Club. No one knows much about the 'Old Sportsmen'ss Club' part of its history... buuuuut the building seems to have a lot of legends regarding its time as what one might classify a biker bar.

I'm hoping maybe there's some deep history the buildings origins and orginal intent, and maybe how its gotten through history to be an abandoned building at the end of a street."

Does anyone recognize this house. My ancestors rented it, I believe, in about 1910. Is it still standing? Or was it taken down?
I have class photos from Howard High School class of 1947 I would like to donate to a local West Bridgewater historical society or library in my mother's name. Could you please advise?
Will you post who won the raffle basket?
I enjoyed the lecture last night on he Spanish Influenza as I lost a great aunt to it. But I had an additional surprise. I recognized some names on the Society's newsletter . Double checked this morning and sure enough, Mary Hayward was my 8th great grandmother. Thank you, I got more information than I bargined for.
A BIG thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make 99 a success last night!
