Thank you to everyone who took part in the AAHCM Flower Me to the Moon event.

We truly appreciate all of the volunteers, families, and community members who came out to help plant, learn, and beautify the museum grounds. Your time, energy, and support helped make the event a success.

Together, we planted more than flowers. We planted community, growth, and something future generations will be able to enjoy.

Thank you again for supporting the African American Historical & Cultural Museum.

Have you heard of Al Hoosman?

His journey took him from the Rath Packing Plant to the boxing ring, to serving in WWII, to the big screen, and even to starting an orphanage in Germany.
Stories like his are why we do this work.
Let’s make sure they’re not forgotten.

This weekend, we had the honor of dedicating our pavilion to Ms. Melvina Scott.

In her honor, we placed a marker and a new bench for visitors to sit, reflect, and enjoy the space she helped make possible.

Ms. Scott worked tirelessly to preserve our history and ensure future generations would understand the significant contributions to Waterloo, Iowa, this country, and the world that African Americans have made.

As a 100% volunteer-operated museum, moments like this are only possible through the dedication and support of our community.

The pavilion has also been updated with new tables, and a new grill will be installed soon, creating a welcoming space for our community to gather.

In honoring her legacy, we look forward to this space continuing to bring people together.

If you’re interested in reserving the pavilion for your own gathering, you can find more information on our website aahcmuseum.org.
