Fourteen of the 16 teams competing in the Second-Annual National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dual Classic presented by Cliff Keen Wrestling and Territory Resources on December 21 and 22 at Gallagher-Iba Arena are ranked in the Top 40 in MatScouts first national high school rankings, including the top three finishers at the 2023 Class 6A Oklahoma State High School Championships - Stillwater Wrestling, Edmond North and Bixby Wrestling. Edmond North is ranked third while Bixby is ranked 16th and Stillwater is ranked 22nd.
Edmond North won the inaugural Dual Classic in 2022 while Stillwater finished second and Bixby finished seventh.

Bobby Weaver truly made his mark in international wrestling, beginning as a high school junior when he was an alternate for the U.S. freestyle team for the 1976 Olympic Games. Bobby finished second at the world championships in 1979 and also captured a silver medal at the Tbilisi tournament, considered by many to be the toughest freestyle tournament in the world.
He was a member of the U.S. freestyle team that boycotted the Olympics in 1980 and returned to the Olympics in 1984 and won the gold medal. It was the first of seven gold medals for the Americans and his celebratory back flip electrified the partisan crowd in Los Angeles.

Dave came back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Magomadov and earn a World Championship Gold medal.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame inducted Dave Schultz as a Distinguished Member in 1997 and annually recognizes and celebrates the nation’s most outstanding high school male seniors for their excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service with the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. One of the most intense competitors ever to step on a wrestling mat, Lincoln McIlravy pursued championships from the time he was a very small boy.
In 1993, he won the NCAA tournament as a 142-pound true freshman for Iowa Wrestling, coming from five points down with 45 seconds left in the finals to defeat Fresno State Wrestling’s Gerry Abas, 16-15. As a sophomore, Lincoln moved up a weight class, won his first Big Ten title and repeated as NCAA champ. As a junior, he was on a 52-match winning streak heading into the NCAA finals when the unexpected happened - Illinois Wrestling’s Steve Marianetti scored a 13-10 upset in the finals, depriving Lincoln of the chance to become a four-time NCAA Wrestling champion.

Iowa coach Dan Gable had a memorable send-off at the 1997 NCAA Championships, but Iowa State nearly spoiled the party during his final dual.
Jay Keel, a Chickasaw Nation citizen, finished third in the Oklahoma state high school tournament in 1976 and wrestled at Haskell Indian Nations College before a knee injury ended his career. He began serving as a member of the Board of Governors of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012 and is a member of the Executive Committee.
He became an ordained and licensed minister after college, serving as a youth pastor for more than 10 years and working 16 years to establish a Youth and Family Services team in the Chickasaw Nation. He currently serves as the Secretary of Family Services for the Chickasaw Nation, overseeing programs and opportunities that support strong and healthy Chickasaw families.

Johnny Johnson, a Sac and Fox Nation citizen, was an Oklahoma state champion for Midwest City High School and a two-time All-American for the University of Oklahoma. He is in his 23rd season as head coach of the UW-Stevens Point wrestling program and he piloted UWSP’s first season of women’s wrestling in 2019-20.
He had a 74-6 prep career record and won the Elite World championship as a senior. He helped OU to two NCAA runner-up team finishes while finishing sixth in 1984 and fourth in 1986. Johnny had a career record of 112-22-2 and shared the wrestling room with National Wrestling Hall of Fame Distinguished Members Melvin Douglas, Andre Metzger, Dave Schultz and Mark Schultz. Johnny was a member of three U.S. National teams and an alternate to the 1988 U.S. Olympic team.
In the first year of the women’s wrestling program, Johnny coached Jessika Rottier to the 2020 national championship in the 170 weight class. Johnny has coached five wrestlers to six NCAA championships while training 32 All-Americans and 43 National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-Americans. Before coming to UWSP, he served as an assistant coach for Hall of Fame coach J Robinson at the University of Minnesota for eight seasons. There he was instrumental in developing 18 All-Americans, 10 Big Ten champions, and a No. 1 dual team ranking in 1994.

Blake Peterson, MD, an Iowa Nation citizen, was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American for Truman State University, finishing fifth in 2007 and third in 2008. He was a two-time Missouri state high school champion for Saint Joseph Central High School. Blake had a career prep record of 159-21, including 49-0 as a senior. He not excelled on the mat, but also in the classroom. He graduated from Truman State University with his bachelor’s degree in biology and earned his doctor of medicine degree from the MU School of Medicine. He currently works as an orthopedic surgeon at the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center in his hometown.

Each wrestler had the same number of passivity calls, forcing a judges’ decision to determine the gold medalist. Talented heavyweight Kurt Angle accomplished it all. He powered his way to membership in the "Big Four," claiming championships at the Junior Nationals, NCAA, 1995 World and 1996 Olympic Games. Only the fourth American to reach those heights, he joined legends Dave Schultz, John Smith and Kenny Monday. Great scramble between Bobby Douglas of West Liberty University Wrestling and Mickey Martin (white trunks) of Sooner Wrestling during the 1963 NCAA Wrestling championship finals at 130 pounds. Mickey eventually won, 12-8. Bobby was inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1987 and was inducted into our Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa in 2003. Mickey was inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2014. Mickey was voted Outstanding Wrestler at the NCAA Wrestling Division I Tournament in 1963, joining his father, Wayne Martin, who we inducted as a Distinguished Member in 2008, as the only father-son combination to win the Outstanding Wrestler award.
