A Father’s Day tradition the Gable family will never forget. β€οΈπŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈ

Pictured are Dan, Mack, Molly, Annie, Jenni, and Mackie Gable at the University of Iowa’s Slater Hall, where they spent Father’s Day checking in campers for wrestling camp.

Once registration wrapped up, the family would continue their tradition with a trip to Pizza Hut together. A simple family tradition that became part of countless summers of Iowa wrestling. πŸ•

From the wrestling mat to the Waterloo community, Bill Tate Sr. made an impact that continues to be felt today. πŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈ

Waterloo native, Bill wrestled for East High School, placing third at the state tournament in 1961. In 1972, he founded the Waterloo Boys Club wrestling program and served as its head coach for 10 years, positively impacting youth throughout Waterloo and the surrounding communities.

Alongside assistant coaches Larry Sallis, Aaron Roberts, and Phillip Caldwell, Tate helped develop numerous Iowa state champions. He also coached Stewart Carter and Mike Van Arsdale, who went on to become NCAA champions for Iowa State.

In recognition of his lasting impact on the community and the sport of wrestling, Tate received the Russ Smith Community Impact Award from the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa in 2021. πŸ†

Trust is a powerful form of leadership.

As a young wrestler, Dan Gable was handed a literal key to West Waterloo High School by Coach Bob Siddensβ€”a gesture that spoke volumes.

Coach Siddens saw Gable’s potential and trusted him to lead by example. That key wasn’t just to the building, it was to responsibility, discipline, and the belief that greatness begins with accountability.

Celebrate the coach who saw what others couldn't. Support the Friends of Bob Siddens Endowment Campaign and help us preserve the legacy of a leader who shaped champions on and off the mat.
