Discover the Medicine Woods at Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum! Our new accessible trail makes it easier for visitors of all abilities to explore the woods, with brand-new benches along the way and signs highlighting the native flora found throughout the trail.

Come enjoy a peaceful walk, learn about the plants around you, and experience this special part of the museum grounds.

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend for our Navajo Weaving Seminar at MKIM. What a truly special afternoon!

We are especially grateful to Lynda Teller Pete for sharing her family’s generations of knowledge and experience with Navajo weaving. Her stories, expertise, and generosity made the seminar an unforgettable experience for all who attended. We were also honored to have Lynda and Belvin spend time with our collection, offering a private consultation on our Navajo textiles and helping us see these treasured pieces in new ways.

Thank you to everyone who participated, asked thoughtful questions, handled the tools and hand-spun wool, and helped make the afternoon so engaging. We are grateful to have shared this special experience with our community and look forward to bringing you more programs that connect us with the history, artistry, and living traditions of Native peoples.

Have you ever seen so many textiles in one room? We are all prepared for this weekend's Navajo Weaving Seminar. As a special treat, Lynda Teller Pete is giving MKIM a private consultation on our textile collection to tell us a bit more than we already know. Never have all of our museum's Southwestern textiles been in one room before!

We look forward to sharing this special seminar on Saturday, August 29th, with everyone. The public seminar will begin at 2 PM, and will include a thorough history of Navajo weaving experienced firsthand through generations of Lynda’s family, along with an interactive portion where attendees will be able to ask questions and handle Navajo tools and hand-spun wool.

Join us at Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, at 18 Highlawn Road in Warner on Saturday, September 26th from 10 am - 3 pm for our annual family-friendly Harvest Moon Festival. The festival is a Native American celebration of the harvest, the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Harvest Moon is about more than just crops and food, it is a celebration of a season’s worth of hard work throughout the community.

The day will include the opportunity to make dolls from corn husks, sweet grass braids and hear traditional Abenaki storytelling. There is also a special scavenger hunt activity to complete - even the adults will have fun with this! Enjoy watching a live demonstration of flint-knapping, and learn the process of how acorn flour is made. There will be sensory-friendly activities and games. The entire family will savor the taste of Native foods, including the ever-popular Hidatsa bison stew and three-sisters soup. Tickets are available at the gate the day of the event.

A big thank you to Castle in the Clouds for welcoming Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum for an outreach program earlier this week! We had a wonderful time sharing knowledge and connecting with attendees through a presentation and hands-on artifacts.

Join the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum for a fascinating and engaging seminar with acclaimed Diné (Navajo) master weaver, educator, and author Lynda Teller Pete on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2 PM.

For more than seven generations, Lynda’s family has created award-winning textiles in the traditional Two Grey Hills style. Originally from Two Grey Hills, Newcomb, NM, Navajo Nation, Lynda comes from a family of accomplished weavers, loom and tool makers, and survivors of government residential schools. She carries this family knowledge forward through her own weaving, teaching, writing, and collaborations with museums and fiber arts organizations around the world.

During this special presentation, Lynda will share a firsthand history of Navajo weaving, exploring its artistry, cultural significance, traditions, and enduring legacy. The seminar will also include an interactive opportunity for attendees to ask questions and handle Navajo weaving tools and hand-spun wool.

Lynda is the co-author of Spider Woman’s Children: Navajo Weavers Today and How to Weave a Navajo Rug and Other Lessons from Spider Woman, the first Navajo weaving publications written by Diné weavers. Her many honors include the 2023 Native Treasures Legacy Award, the 2022–2024 Luce Indigenous Knowledge Fellowship, and the 2024 School of Advanced Research Rollin and Mary Ella King Native Artist Fellowship.
