Sad news for the family and space computer history.

The Apollo Flight Guidance computer was an absolute amazing accomplishment critical to the success of the series of flights. The program was key to that success, especially the survival of the Apollo 13 crew.

You can see an actual Apollo computer when you visit InfoAge at Camp Evans.

Margaret Hamilton, the first female programmer hired to work on the space project at M.I.T., was 90.

Thank you for this nice post. We have eight museums on this National Historic Landmark. We are located off Route 18, exit 7 northbound / 7A southbound. We are open W, S, & S noon to 5. Free parking. One fee gives you entrance to all the museums.

Some places make you slow down before you even realize it. A walk through those low brick buildings and open grounds brings back the feeling of an era when radios were magic and big ideas came wrapped in wires, tubes, and antennas.

The old military campus still carries that mid-century science look, with its plain utilitarian buildings and wide stretches of grass that once held serious work. There’s a real mix of history here, from wartime research to the early days of communication and technology.

I always like places that keep more than one chapter alive at once. You can feel the weight of what happened here without it feeling frozen in time.

An awesome museum housed at Camp Evans. Their volunteers share their enthusiasm and passion for this dangerous profession. You can run safely from fires and disasters because they have the training, Equipment, and dedication required to save lives and property.

“9/11, the Day After”

A 25th Anniversary Commemoration of the World Trade Center Attack.

In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, numerous governments, military, law enforcement, and civilian organizations deployed personnel and equipment to support rescue, recovery, and investigative operations at the World Trade Center site.
The above presentation tells the untold story of individuals from organizations formerly at Camp Evans and Fort Monmouth who brought, unsolicited, special purpose monitoring military equipment, on their own initiative, to the WTC site to aid in the search and identification of potential survivors and aircraft flight recorders.
Using the sophisticated sensors and electronics, operators conducted systematic searches for survivors in the debris field. This mission represents an early example of applying communications intelligence and electronic warfare methodologies to a domestic disaster-response environment.
