Madonna first played at the legendary Studio 54 in New York City on May 19, 1983. She made her debut appearance and performance at a special 15th-anniversary party for the Fiorucci fashion label. I was there,  I thought she was fantastic but I didn't catch her name.

May 20, 1983 I was shooting a young singer for the Hamptons Newspaper Magazine that was going to play at Bay Street, a friend's club in Bridgehampton. I was in the middle of the shoot when it hit me. "Didn't you play at Studio 54 last night?" "Yeah"

It was Madonna Ciccone.
