Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008) is considered a pioneer of practically all post-war art movements since Abstract Expressionism. He was always interested in a precise, new perspective – also with the help of photography. When he traveled to China in 1982, he took hundreds of photographs of the country's everyday life, its traditions, aesthetics, politics and religion. Rauschenberg photographed shop windows, street scenes, murals, monuments and markets. He combined the "Studies for Chinese Summerhall" into his first and only project with chromogenic prints, a series of 28 photographs that he published as C-print color photographs in a small edition (30). It is nothing short of a miracle that we are now able to present the last copies of three different motifs from this hand-signed photo edition.
