I have good news and bad news. This one is a little long (that's what she said), but please power through it.
J/K, it's just good news. We did the near impossible and won in a category with a paid contestant (has this ever even been achieved before??)
Make no mistake, even if we won by 2 votes, because of the handicap, this was effectively a landslide victory.
I've been trying for 3 years to win this category, but the playing field was just too unlevel, even with my extreme coolness. I almost gave up this year, but interacting with all of you good people on teh facebooks gave me the will to try just one last time. Actually, I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but in addition to the overwhelming support online, many people reach out to me on the side to let me know they appreciate the work I am doing (feel free to keep doing this by the way, lol).
This even occasionally happens out in public. The one that really gave me the drive to try again was when I was closing my tab out a locally drinkery (whaaaaaat) and the dude looks at me, (I didn't even know he really knew me other than a guy that comes in "occasionally"), and he goes, hey man, I just wanted to let you know that all of us here appreciate what you are doing out there.
But what does it all mean Basil? It means that Tucson values top-tier locally focused drone content of dope murals, wicked microbursts, dilapidated buildings, tens of people at protests, decades long roadwork and construction (including that hideous project blue), and annoying huskies ... set to the sickest alternative rock music there is, by a chill dude that runs his entire operation by himself. I wrote my webpage in straight up html in notepad. I film and photograph everything myself. I do all my photo and video editing myself. I write all my own hilarious captions and rebuttals. And I don't pay anything for marketing or SEO. These things are also probably why my website and video edits are mid, lol.
Thank you everyone, you rock. Obviously, I didn't do this myself, all of you made this happen by voting every day. I am extremely grateful for your support.
In closing, I hear that Grant Rd and the 22nd St. Bridge are gonna be done any day now, so be sure to hang around for the finished aerial photos!
