Ralph Tawangyaouma (Hopi, 1906-1973) was a master silversmith responsible for making truly remarkable pieces of jewelry. He’s an excellent example of an artist changing their signature (or in this case hallmark) throughout their art career.

Multidisciplinary artist and world builder Virgil Ortiz was my guest on the Art Dealer Diaries Podcast this week and it was such a treat to be able to sit down and talk to him about his art and his life. We filmed this back in August during Santa Fe Indian Market at his pop up gallery right off of the Plaza and I’m so glad Virgil was open to taking time out of his busy schedule to make this interview happen.

New episode of the Art Dealer Diaries Podcast are available every Wednesday on our YouTube channel and you can listen to the audio version on any major podcast platform.

Erika Victor drove all the way down from Zuni, NM last weekend and dropped off the last group of paintings for her upcoming exhibition “Edge of Darkness.” While she was here she talked us through two of her newest paintings, “Rain Over Zuni” and “The White Dove of the Desert.”

Edge of Darkness by Erika Victor officially opens on October 16, but all ten works in the show are on view starting today. This is Erika’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and we are beyond thrilled to have her in the Medicine Man Gallery family of artists.

I happened to stop into the Chiricahua Desert Museum on feeding day where I met this lively prairie rattlesnake. If you’re interested in seeing wildlife up close without putting yourself in dangerous situations, museums like this are a great place to do so.
