Miami Valley Veterans Museum

Miami Valley Veterans Museum Founded in 2009 the Miami Valley Veterans Museum's Mission is to Honor, Preserve and Perpetuate the legacy of veterans.
(1)

Our purpose is first and foremost, to honor and preserve the memory of local veterans through a museum dedicated to their contributions, to create and protect the freedoms that we as Americans enjoy. To serve as an educational tool that teaches youth about our military involvement throughout the world, and finally to provide a unique tourist hot spot in Miami County.

DO YOU KNOW? Fire Safety Issues

Do you know that if you throw your 9-volt battery in your kitchen trash, you can start a fire or that your child’s bedroom door on the second floor should be closed at night or that your I phone or laptop can ignite?

Are your families’ bedrooms on the second floor? Did you know that you should have a fire ladder in each bedroom? Do you know what one is and where to buy it and what it costs? Has a visitor to your home ever extinguished a cigarette in one of your potted plants? In addition to rudeness, this is an outright no-no.

Lyle Bolin, Troy fire inspector/investigator, firefighter, and paramedic knows the answers to these question and so many more with training from Sinclair Community College and certification as a fire inspector/investigator from the Ohio Fire Academy. Bolin is the featured speaker on September 2, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum at 2234 South County Road 25-A, and the public is invited.

Bolin says, “I am responsible for all of Troy and that includes 1700 business. I inspect the businesses for alarms, extinguishers, and general safety. I check breaker boxes and other electrical devices and do community outreach to educate. And Bolin, unlike many speakers, welcomes interruptions as audience member think of a question/situation for which they want/need an answer.

With a firm commitment to service to the Troy area, Bolin wants veterans in the audience to know of his family’s service. He is proud of his father, Keith Bolin, a U.S. Army combat medic in Vietnam and his grandfather, Cliff Bolin, a World War II U.S. Marine machine gunner who fought in Guadalcanal.

Bolin will arrive at the museum at 8 a.m. with two medics from his team who will be taking vital signs of veterans and their guests, Participants may have all tests taken or as many as they like in a private office. The tests, available from 8 until 9 a.m., are the following: blood pressure reading, pulse rate, oxygen saturation in blood, and blood sugar (which requires the prick of a finger).
Refreshments of coffee, water, and pastries will be served beginning at 8:30. Call the museum with questions: 937.332.8852.

Currently missing from our displays are items from the Gulf War. If there are veterans who would like to donate items from that timeframe (or any other); please contact our Curator John Bankowitz at the museum at 937-332-8852 or [email protected]. If you wish to drop by with your donation our hours are 10am-2pm on Mon, Wed, and Thurs. We are located at 2245 S CR 25A. We are open with the same hours on the first Saturday of each month. All veterans and family members and anyone interested in seeing our displays and getting a tour are welcome at the museum at no cost. Thank you for your service and patronage.
