As 2025 comes to end, we would like to thank each and every person who supported the Sebring Ohio Historical Society this year. This was one of our best years - monetarily yes, but also fun, informative, and educational programs and events. Here's a summary of just some of the things we did this year!
***In March, the Strand Theater presented the movie Clue, and it was very well attended!
***In April, the Spring Fling Bingo event was well attended and also was a super fund raiser for our organization. Our thanks go out to Nancy Whinnery, along with the help of several volunteers and countless raffle basket donations from area businesses and individuals who made it all worthwhile. A huge thank you to the Sebring Post 76 American Legion for allowing us to host this event in their hall!! ( Please call Nancy if you can donate for our 2026 Spring Fling Bingo - 330-540-2463 )
***Our members also sold Texas Roadhouse peanuts ( with free appetizer coupons) this year as a way to raise money. The Strand Theater Museum takes a lot to keep it maintained and operating!
***From April through June, we hosted a Sebring Artists' Exhibition, showcasing the abundance of talent that has come from our small village. Over 23 present or former Sebring residents exhibited their artwork! On Thursday, April 17th, we welcomed some of the artists and family members at the opening night reception.
*** On July 26th a Pottery Swap meet/flea market was held outside on our corner lot next to the Strand. We hope we can make this a yearly event!
*** On September 11th Frank and Michal Barrett hosted a Genealogy for Beginners class at our Strand Museum. This too was very educational and we would like to do this again in the future!
*** We host a pizza and movie night each year for the Sebring Basketball team, just before the start of their season. The players get to see some great Sebring memorabilia, an inspirational basketball movie, pizza and snacks. We love having them!
*** With the Christmas season, we offer our annual Classic Christmas Movie event. I believe we have hosted this event for close to 35 years now! The movie this year was the 1940 Remember The Night with Fred MacMurry and Barbara Stanwyck. We love making the museum look festive and this is one of our biggest fundraisers. So thank you to everyone who joins us, many who have been coming to this annual party for decades!
*** This year we opened the Strand theater Museum on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm. Our board members took turns being hosts and we loved sharing history and stories with visitors from all around!
Please note that the Strand will be opened by appointment only in the months of January and February, as we take a winter break.
There will not be a members meeting in January, but we hope to see you on February 12th at 5pm as we begin to plan for 2026!
I'm sure I missed a few things in this summary, but as you can see, we love our museum and want to continue to preserve Sebring's wonderful history for many years to come. We invite you to become involved - it's so rewarding to get involved in Sebring's history!
A happy new year to all! 🎉🎉🎉
