Alliance Historical Society Sharing Alliance, Ohio’s stories since 1939. From the Mabel Hartzell Home to local exhibits, we bring history to life with tours, talks & programs.

Join us in celebrating and preserving the heart of our community. The Alliance Historical Society is responsible for the collection, preservation, and organization of historical materials of the city of Alliance, Ohio. Members of the Society work with area schools and community organizations to present historical talks. Exhibits of historical materials are supplied by the Society for display at lo

cal businesses and public buildings. The Society is known for its award-winning YouTube video series, “Marking Time in Alliance,” and its many publications on the history of Alliance. The Mabel Hartzell Historical Home is owned and operated by the Alliance Historical Society. It was built in 1867 for Matthew and Mary Edwards Earley. The Earley home is a showplace of life in Alliance in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Tours may be scheduled by appointment. Please contact us at least 24 hours in advance. The Alliance History Mini Museum is located on the Mabel Hartzell property and includes a 1910 Alliance car, items manufactured in Alliance, and items related to Alliance’s cultural history.

Thank you to all who came out to hear Ben Patterson’s story behind his stories tonight as Alliance Went to the Movies. Special thanks go out to Ryan Patterson and Kevin Kern of Mount Union’s Theatre Department for their expert handling of the tasks we gave them. We also want to thank Ohio Goes to the Movies, Visit Canton and ArtsinStark for making this event possible. Channel 1022 was there to film the event so watch for it if you missed it.

Happy visitors to the Mabel Hartzell Home and Alliance History Museum this week. Carnation Queen Gianna Phillips and Bill Brown and Lori Spall and family had a great time seeing all that the Alliance Historical Society has to offer. The McKinley Marching Club at South Freedom Avenue and East Market Street, behind City Hall and Public Square, about 1910. The first McKinley Marching Club was formed in Canton, Ohio, in 1896 during William McKinley's first run for President. Republican clubs bearing this name appeared around the region.
