WHO WE ARE: OUR MORALS & GOALS
At the heart of the Scottsboro Boys Museum is a simple belief: Know Their Story.
We preserve the history of the Scottsboro Boys not only to remember the past, but to understand the systems, circumstances, and people that shaped it. By humanizing those whose lives were changed by the case, we create space to explore the broader pursuit of justice, equality, and understanding.
That also means looking beyond the case itself. The Scottsboro Boys’ story is connected to larger narratives in American history; from the lives of young African Americans and the culture of hobo life in the early 1900s, false accusations, racial injustice, the failures of legal systems, and plenty more relevant subjects we still discuss in present day. These connections help us place the Scottsboro Boys within the larger history they were a part of, and help us recognize where those conversations still matter today.
Our work reaches beyond the walls of the Museum. Through education, community partnerships, and meaningful conversations, we hope to connect this history to people of all ages and backgrounds while inspiring a more informed and just future.
Their story is our foundation. Justice is our purpose.
