We had a fabulous time at Centinela Traditional Arts in Chimayo yesterday with Icon, Emily Trujillo. We want to thank her for a very interesting and informative event about the past, present and future of Chimayo weaving.

Join a small group of lucky participants for an afternoon of conversation with Emily Trujillo, an eighth-generation, award winning, Rio Grande/Chimayó weaver.

The only daughter of nationally renowned weavers Irvin and Lisa Trujillo and granddaughter of Jocobo “Jake” Trujillo, Emily has spent her entire life watching and learning from the generations before her (the Trujillo family has roots in Chimayó going back to the 1700s). Yet, not only does Emily fully embrace the techniques, methods and designs of Rio Grande/ Chimayó traditional weaving, she also incorporates modern ideas and influences into her art. For her, this means taking snapshots of her life and experiences and putting them into her weaving (for example her love of K-Pop, anime, urban culture, and her cats). As important as her commitment to creating her own pieces, Emily is extremely passionate about passing on the tradition to current and future generations of weavers. As such, she splits her time between her own weaving, the preservation and revival of Chimayó weaving, community building, an ever growing number of educational programs, and fashion design.

Emily’s passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for this subject are unrivaled, and the opportunity to engage with her and learn about traditional weaving, her family, her influences, and her other projects is not to be missed.

This event will be held at Centinela Traditional Arts gallery and workspace in Chimayó. In addition to spending time with Emily, refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to purchase items crafted by the Trujillos or one of the other talented weavers who show at Centinela.

📣 DROP-OFF DONATION DAY SATURDAY

FOFA is seeking folk art donations of gently used jewelry, textiles, clothing, ceramics, masks, wood carvings, paintings, sculpture, and folk art décor items to be sold at the 2027 Folk Art Flea. If you have folk, tribal, fine art, decorative art, clothing with an ethnic or folk art look, or art books that you are ready to recycle to other art lovers then please join us for our fall donation days.

Anyone can donate! If you have friends who are cleaning out, downsizing, or holding an estate sale, please let them know about this special opportunity to make a difference at one of Santa Fe’s most celebrated institutions, the Museum of International Folk Art, by recycling their art items to the Folk Art Flea.

We had such a memorable trip to Taos this month! We are grateful to those who hosted us and shared their knowledge and love of folk art with our curious group. Here are just a few photos from our adventures.

The countdown is on! 1 day until the much-anticipated, annual FOFA Folk Art Flea.

Get ready for a fabulous sale of donated folk art from around the world. Clothing, ceramics, textiles, masks, jewelry, paintings and more — at bargain prices and free admission!

This beloved fundraising event, benefiting the Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA), will be at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds (next to the Genoveva Chavez Community Center) Saturday, May 2 from 10 am - 2 pm and admission is FREE.

Friends of Folk Art (FOFA) members are eligible for Early Bird Shopping on Saturday, May 2, from 9 to 10 am before the doors open to the public.
