Welcome to the City of Santa Clarita’s 40th Park! The William S. Hart Park and Museum is now open to the public. Last tour starts 30 minutes before closing.

Hart Park and Museum is the former retirement home of the famed silent film actor and director who produced a series of hit Western movies in the early 1900s. His beautiful Spanish Colonial Revival Style Mansion -- now the Museum -- exhibits an impressive collection of Western artwork by noted artists Charles M. Russell, Frederic Re*****on, and Joe de Yong, as well as mementos from early Hollywood

, personal furnishings and effects, and artifacts representing multiple Native American cultures. The Museum also includes an historic 1910 Ranch House that exhibits Hart's tack and saddle collection, personal furnishings, and additional Hollywood mementos. Both the Mansion and the Ranch House are located in scenic William S. Hart Park, where guests may enjoy visiting a live collection of farm animals, a herd of American bison, a vast picnic area, a series of hiking trails, and a charming Western-themed Gift Store. Free guided tours of the Mansion are started every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour during our hours of operation. The Ranch House is open for self-guided tours.

The William S. Hart Museum collection contains over 1,500 books, and not surprisingly, many are novels from the Western genre. In the 1920s and 1930s, many authors sent their books to Hart with personal inscriptions, commenting on their admiration for him or their hope he could assist them in their careers.

Now, a new mini exhibit offers a closer look at this unique part of Hart’s collection. You can take a closer look at some of these books in the new mini exhibit Yee Haw! The Western Novel in Hart's Book Collection. The mini exhibit can be viewed during regular tours of Hart Mansion from August 26, 2026 through February 28, 2027.

Have you ever wondered what is currently playing on Hart's Electrola record player?

Located in the Living Room of Hart Mansion, this record player is all set to play Irving Berlin's rendition of "Venetian Isles" with vocals by Lewis James. Released in the late 1920s, Hart's Automatic Electrola Radiola featured the new Victor Automatic Mechanism which allowed the machine to play up to twelve records consecutively!

This archival photograph shows Hart's sister, Mary Ellen, sitting on the front steps of their home. Built in 1927, Hart Mansion was home to Hart and his sister until their deaths in the 1940s.

Nearly 100 years after its construction, Hart Mansion welcomes visitors to walk these same steps on docent-led tours and step into William S. Hart's story.

Ready to escape the summer heat by taking a dip in the pool?

When architect Arthur Kelly built a Pool and Poolhouse for Hart as part of his estate, personal pools were still a symbol of the Hollywood elite. Located on the hilltop near his Mansion, the Pool was only a short walk away for Hart and his guests.

This swimsuit from the Hart Museum collection belonged to Hart's son, William S. Hart Jr., and is typical of the popular 1920s fashion. Manufactured by Swim Easy, a Myers Manufacturing Co. brand, the suit is made from their signature wool jersey fabric and features a small belt. Displayed next to the swimsuit is Junior's diving stone which would have been used for pool games.

The pool was filled in after Hart donated his property to become a park and museum, but the red brick surrounding the fountain marks the original footprint of the Pool.

Do you know the story behind this statue?

This sculpture, titled "A Range Rider of the Yellowstone," is a a monument located in Billings, Montana. The life-size bronze statue was created by C. C. Cristadoro and modeled after Hart and his beloved pony Fritz. In 1925 The Signal reported that Cristadoro was in Newhall working on the statue. Two years later on July 4, 1927 Hart attended the dedication of the monument in Billings. These archival photographs show Hart at the ceremony greeting fans and posing beside the monument.

The version of the statue on display in the Foyer of Hart Mansion is a working model of the life-size sculpture.

In June, 106 years ago, Hart released his film Sand. In the movie, Hart plays the role of Dan Kurrie, a ranch worker who foils the plans of a gang of railroad bandits with the help of his pinto pony.

Their daring adventure features thrilling action sequences, including a cliff-jump to the river below. At the time of this film's release, Hart was approximately 56 years old.

The Ranch House looks a little different today than it did when William S. Hart first purchased the property in 1921. Swipe left to step back in time and catch a glimpse of the original structure!

In this archival photo you can see that the building was originally made from wood. It was made using board and batten construction, wide wooden planks with narrow strips of wood (bats) placed over the joints.

In 1922 Hart had the structure covered in stucco, but if you venture inside of the Ranch House you can still see the original wood!

Have you spotted this Singer sewing machine during your visit to the Hart Mansion?

Hart's sister Mary Ellen was known to help Hart with his career in many ways, including helping to sew his costumes for theater productions! This Singer model was produced in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and features golden Egyptian-inspired designs.

You can find this sewing machine on display in the Breakfast Room of the Hart Mansion.
