At the back of the gallery, bathed in red light, a silver reliquary bust conceals a miniature diorama visible only through a peephole. The scene, set in a decaying industrial zone, contrasts with the reliquary’s exterior, which writhes with barbed appendages, tentacles, and crab-like extrusions capped by lamb’s hooves. In Oliveira’s work, tentacles function as counter-appendages that reject the singular dominance of the eye or the hand, embodying a mode of sensing and thinking through touch, groping, brushing, and probing. 🔴

Cammi Climaco: Wild Freedom is on view in our second floor gallery space through September 28.

Objects represent someone’s inner world, mark time, and/or can indicate a future self. As Cammi states: ”Clay is the best material for this unstructured exploration. It’s a way of working which is immediate and thought to fingers. It also has the ability to live for thousands of years and is a reminder as a maker how my time is so small in comparison and how special a thousand year old object is.”

This is the last week to view Dana Sherwood: Garden of the Sphinx at the gallery. Join us Friday-Sunday, 11-5p and explore the world of Dana Sherwood. Sherwood’s work investigates the relationship between humans and the natural world, relying on her own style of magical-realism to portray connection between species. Some of her subjects we know well from mythology—swans, snakes and horses, others emerge from the artist’s personal mythology: snails, raccoons, and deer. Sherwood’s work invites viewers into an enchanting wonderland-esque universe, magical and bright, while conveying ardent messages related to the convergence of ecology, mythmaking and eco-feminism. 🐌

We are thrilled to announce the opening of God of Accidents, our second solo show with opening August 16, 2025!

Referencing Star Trek and the sensuous violence of Italian Giallo cinema, God of Accidents locates the Baroque in folds, ruptures, and proliferations that resist containment. Like the porous bodies of Cronenberg and Carpenter, Oliveira’s work approaches the Baroque not as ornament but as ontology: a condition of excess, a way of thinking through metamorphosis, rupture, and unstable flesh.

Please join us for an opening reception on Saturday, August 16 from 4-6p. God of Accidents will be on view through October 5.

On view now at Geary: Cammi Climaco’s Wild Freedom and Dana Sherwood’s Garden of the Sphinx. Climaco’s ceramics experiment with forms: vessel, sculpture and functional object, and became about considering what objects make a person while Sherwood’s work investigates the mystery, riddle and the alchemy of the Sphinx as a symbol in archaeology and metaphor for the creative process. Visit our first and second floor spaces today, 11-5p at the gallery.
