Anita Diebel’s connection to Rockport’s arts community spans decades and reflects a lifetime of leadership, service, and advocacy. Her journey in Rockport began as an exhibiting artist at the renowned Rockport Art Festival, where she was selected to participate for thirteen consecutive years and became part of the creative community that would shape her professional life. She later joined the Rockport Center for the Arts, serving as curator, workshop instructor, member of the Board of Directors, and participant in the strategic planning process that helped envision and guide the development of the Center’s new campus. Through these roles, she helped shape the institution’s artistic vision, educational mission, and long-term growth. As a founding member of WindWay Gallery and later the owner of her own successful gallery, Diebel became one of the region’s most influential arts advocates. Her leadership, mentorship, and steadfast support of artists helped establish Rockport as one of Texas’ premier destinations for art and culture, attracting artists, collectors, and visitors from across the state and beyond.
A celebrated figure in the Coastal Bend arts community, Anita Diebel was honored as the Rockport Art Festival Master Artist in 2003, joining the distinguished ranks of contemporaries including Harold Phenix, Kent Ullberg, Jesus Moroles, Al and Nanci Barnes and Herb Booth, whose work helped define generations of Texas coastal art.
Since opening Anita Diebel Gallery, she has remained a tireless advocate for Texas artists, providing exhibition opportunities, professional guidance, and meaningful connections between artists and collectors. The gallery became a cornerstone of Rockport’s cultural landscape and a destination for those seeking exceptional contemporary and traditional art inspired by the Texas coast and beyond.
