Join us for a roundtable discussion on an exhibition and soon-to-be-released book that explores various perspectives of contemporary life in Flushing.
In 2023, artists and curators Lu Zhang and Herb Tam organized an art exhibition titled Home-O-Stasis: Life and Livelihoods in Flushing at Rong Xin minimall next to the local library. As part of the exhibition, they asked visitors to write the names of long gone Flushing places, and the memories that are part of them, in a section called Dream City 2.0. The name references a failed 1940s era plan to remake downtown Flushing into a futuristic entertainment and business hub.
Zhang and Tam are bringing together artists Xueli Wang and Anne Wu from Home-O-Stasis and neighborhood organizers Amy Zhao and Fulton Hou, for a discussion on place-based memory and imaginings for the future of Flushing.
The program will begin with an introductory presentation about the history of the neighborhood by Queens Historical Society’s Executive Director, Jason Antos, and a preview of the Rong Xin book by its publishers, te editions (Kechun Qe and Michael Guo).
