Big Creek Historical Society

Big Creek Historical Society Join us! The Big Creek Historical Society operates a museum located in a restored 1863 school house, the largest building made of walnut in the world.

The Big Creek Historical Society of Polk City, Iowa, has limited local records & pioneer family histories available for research. The group welcomes new members at any level of involvement. The goal is that the museum become an interactive community area.

Mission: To preserve local history and foster an appreciation for the past

Angela Nelson and 13 Polk City Brownies toured the Big Creek Museum tonight. There was a lot of energy in the old building! They were excited the building was built to be a school for Polk City children. The most interesting fact that emerged during the evening was that in the old days girls could not wear pants to school!

This Sunday the museum is open for the last time this summer. This year we have updated a school display, have some updates to local businesses, added women's interests and received a donation of a display case made in Mr. Locker's shop class. Open 2-4 Sunday, October 14.
