Big Creek Historical Society The Big Creek Historical Society of Polk City, Iowa, has limited local records & pioneer family histories available for research.

The group welcomes new members at any level of involvement. The goal is that the museum become an interactive community area.

Fire department article from the Polk City Centennial book 1975. Does anyone recognize the site of this fire pit? Is that "Doc Tyler's" house in the distance.
At least twice businesses around the square were destroyed, the Congregational Church was destroyed. The hotel burned (possibly intentionally). Fire, wooden buildings and bucket brigades were disasters waiting to happen.
The Centennial Book says we got our first fire truck in 1947. We would love fire department comment on that date.
