Like most early 19th century buildings, the Keeper’s Quarters did not have indoor plumbing as we know it. On those days one did not want to go out into the dark, rain, or cold to visit the outhouse, a chamber pot like this would come in handy. Usually kept in a nearby cupboard or under the bed, the pot would be emptied in the morning.
