RSVP to the Create! Magazine “10th Anniversary Meet & Greet + Pop-Up reception through the Create! Magazine® 🔗 in their bio or through my story! My painting “Revival at Sunset” will be on display. Come and see the work in person. I’m really excited to have this piece in a show. It was licensed by LA MER in 2024 and is part of my ongoing series “Dark Bloom”.

“Revival at Sunset” has a lot of luminous color, detailed subtle structures, and a glowing effect that creates a lot of emotional resonance. The title came from the idea of having a revival of the soul at the 11th hour; a break through moment of vitality, exuberance, and somatosensory connection. To inquire about collecting the piece, please reach out directly to PxP Contemporary Art Gallery .

The show is being held at the incredible Philly gallery Paradigm Gallery + Studio® . I feel really honored to be sharing my work in my home town amongst a group of talented artists, artist-run gallerists, magazine owners, and art entrepreneurs.

Ekaterina Popova I am so proud of you. 10 years of Create! Magazine is an incredible accomplishment. 🥂

Thank you to Ekaterina Popova and PxP Contemporary Art Gallery for going above and beyond to support me being in the show, picking up my work early, and coordinating other important matters, while I continue to balance my health & well-being. When I talk about concepts like fully-integrating working disabled artists into high-end contemporary spaces, offering accommodations whenever possible, and viewing our work as valuable contributions to the art world, Create! Magazine® and PxP Contemporary Art Gallery are incredible examples of this value system.

If you’re a disabled Philly artist who is working on their embracing their own timeline, while continuing to seek supportive opportunities, I hope you can make it out to the show. Come and meet everyone and enjoy a relaxed evening. RSVP for next Friday !

I’d also like to thank my art studio mate Christopher Sumner Richards for helping with get my painting to Kat from the studio, while I was recovering from a cluster headache infusion at Penn Medicine. Chris is a super talented painter who is super focused & makes a lot of amazing work!

🚬 I don’t actually care about Bradley on a Budget, I’m just having an internet ciggie . (But could be get a new towel please 🥲)

My amazing art studio mate crew went gallery hopping tonight. I tried to make it. I napped on the studio couch after teaching but my cluster headaches ramped up again. So instead they sent me this photo & photos of the shows 🥹 Christopher Sumner Richards Julia Grosso Samantha M. Connors

Chris (studio mate) has GIANT paintings up in a show. I wanna go swimming in it. He works so hard ! So happy for him 🥹 🌊 Christopher Sumner Richards

Thank you . I hope to make more soon when my brain behaves 🧠. Being disabled is doo doo, but I find my ways.

Why are we buying $60 bread from Rye bread from an Apple Support shop again? And not cobalt violet deep from Williamsburg Oil Paints . I pledge to never buy a $49 piece of toast , scouts honor.

I LOVE Create! Magazine® & PxP Contemporary Art Gallery . More to come soon about the show. Come to the opening, rsvp.

I had a dream recently that they removed a Gushers from my brain using tongs. Gushers, you’ll be hearing from my lawyers and my kitchen tongs.

Being 38 means I can look back with fondness for my own stupidity , miss the fearlessness of youth, and also acknowledge I was a little sh*t 😂🤓. 👋 I’m just so glad to have experienced living in Montreal for 5 years. Love shapes you.

My tiny art home is almost completely finished! I’m officially mold free and ready to rebuild my life, health, business, and art practice. Thank you so much for all the amazing people who sent my stuff from my wishlist. As a thank you, I put up two of my fun painted postcards as an art giveaway to anyone who contributed to my mold renovation remediation.

I’m happy to announce that the winners are Denice Taylor Rinks and Kristin Ruscher - Textured Resin Art for Collectors & Designers ! Please follow both Denice and Kristin and support their art too! Thank you :)

For more about the moldageddon see my previous posts or flip through here to read about some of the process.

I truly believe that even the worst circumstances can lead to renewal, growth, and a fresh start. As someone who has been through every weird “act of god” and emergency , I have a deeply rooted faith in creativity. The moment I decided that my apartment would become “Charlie’s garden” , all the work, hard days, financial risks & sacrifices , and exhaustion became worth it. I am now waking up in a place that feels more magical everyday.

I look forward to being my garden magic into everything I do and will continue my apartment project as things move forward!

In gratitude and with love,
Charlie

Have you ever wanted to step inside a painting and live there? Color makes me feel so alive and joyful, scratching an itch in my brain. 🧠 For the last two weeks we’ve been renovating my apartment for mold. After laying down the white mold killer paint, I picked out colors that I see when I meditate and listen to music. They all come from the painting palette I’ve been hooked on for the last 5 years.

I thought to myself, if I have to do all this work and lose half my belongings to mold, then my apartment gets to be one giant abstract painting. I get to live inside a painting. The dopamine rush of those 🪸 coral cabinets will sustain me for a long time. Home should be a place of inspiration and freedom, or as my studio mates say, candyland . :)

We aren’t done the apartment yet. There’s a lot left to do, but I am now seeing it as a work of art, in the same way I see my paintings. Art doesn’t have to stay in the studio, it can become part of everyday life. I’m not happy that mold made me bedridden and sick for so long, but I am happy that I get to create my own Candyland.

Thank you to everyone who sent something from my wishlist. There is still time to enter the painting give away. If you’ve sent something from the wishlist or plan to, you will be added list for the giveaway drawing.

I’m currently between hotels, waiting for my next check-in, working on a proposal email. I’ve sat here watching furries walk by to a convention (see final photo), laughing thinking about how funny life is. I love creative people and I love living my life as an artist and teacher. Is it an easy one? Clearly not always, but it’s full of joy , community , and clarity. Thank you to everyone who has been helping me keep going, de-mold my apartment, renovate, and replace items I had to throw into the trash.

Every day since this started, I’ve woken up and found out another person has sent me something on my wishlist, and I feel incredibly blessed to be cared about by others. I’m starting to believe that all the so called bad things that have happened to me in my adult life (car accident, apartment fire, roof falling in, mold infestation etc lol) has just been the universe trying to convince me that I am loved and that I should finally start loving myself back in return. So thank you all for teaching me this lesson again. I am taking it with me in my heart everywhere I go.

I look forward to announcing the winners of my painting give away when I am fully moved back in. For now I am collecting all the names of people who have donated to my Venmo (insert other payment apps here) and my wishlist. Thank you for everyone who has donated or plans to in the future . I will keep showing up in every way I can to get this fixed and spread the love.

Thank you for having my back. Know that I’ve got yours too. I can’t wait until the chaos is over and I can be a part of things again. After years of being sick and not knowing why, I’m exploding with ideas and creativity .

For now please enjoy some chaotic renovation photos (we are done painting with the mold killer layer yay!) , the art I’m giving away, and some furries haha) . 😆now I’m getting out of this cafe, its giving me a migraine, why are they playing korn? 😩😂

With love ,
Charlie

“Think outside the box”, “Trust the process”, “Curiosity is your superpower” - We’ve all heard these kinds of vague generic statements from time to time. They are true but they leave us wanting more, flattening the complexity of our experiences as artists and creatives. So how do we avoid drowning in cliche? We build systems through language, we describe the true experience of what it means to be curious, to be creative, to be someone willing to take the risk of making.

The article I wrote for ShapeShifter_Art_School “The Portal of Curiosity” , is just the beginning of my attempt to outline and describe one of these structures. I am driven by an optimistic need to give myself (and others) something more than perfected a I slop soup or hallmark banalities. In this, I may not always get it right, but it’s in the exercise of writing, I hope to arrive at a failure worth sharing.

I hope you enjoy the article and that you stay tuned for more of my attempts. I have complete gratitude to anyone who reads and engages with my thought experiments. Thank you. - Charlie
