Fiber Reimagined IV Artist Spotlight: Sharon Mayone
Sharon is an artist with roots in architecture and many years spent shaping commercial spaces. Using those same creative skills, she explores the possibilities of texture, form, and transformations through weaving, drawing, painting, and mixed media experimentation.
Her studio practice is an ongoing exploration of how everyday materials can be reimagined, renewed, and brought into a new story. Each piece is a reminder that beauty can emerge from the overlooked, the discarded, and the ordinary.
Pictured here is “AMERICAN CONSUMERISM” which will be on view at GLG for this iteration of Fiber Reimagined. AMERICAN CONSUMERISM is a low relief sculptural work composed of floating, wooden dowels wrapped with more than 800 barcodes salvaged from single-use plastic bags, wrappers, and packaging. The piece illustrates the extraordinary volume of plastic otherwise destined for the landfill or worse, our waterways and shorelines. The work invites the viewer into a quiet, meditative space, echoing the rhythmic calm of water while holding the weight of what lies beneath its surface.
In collaboration with Fiber Art Now , the popular exhibition returns for its fourth year at Gravers Lane Gallery. Innovative contemporary art created from fiber, recycled, and repurposed mixed media will be on display at GLG until September 5th, 2026. The closing reception will take place on September 4th from 5 to 8 pm, with artist talks commencing at 6:30.
