Join the SAR and the DAR at the Cook House today at 2 pm to commemorate the protests held across the colonies when England imposed a tax on tea without any representation or input from the colonies.

Coffee punch and other drinks became popular after tea was famously dumped into the Boston Harbor. Stop at the Cook House,2-4 pm, to enjoy coffee punch and other refreshments.

📝About the webinar: Historic preservation relies on understanding and communicating the significance of places, yet many historic buildings, districts, and cultural landscapes are interpreted without fully identifying the people who lived, worked, worshipped, or were buried there. Genealogical research provides critical contextual information that enhances preservation planning, interpretation, and public engagement by restoring human stories to historic places.

Kaitlyn Pauley, professional genealogist, will present how genealogical records - such as census schedules, land and tax records, church registers, probate files, and migration documentation - can be used to connect individuals and families to specific sites over time. By incorporating genealogical context, preservation professionals can strengthen interpretive narratives, support statements of significance and foster deeper community and descendent engagement. Using case studies relevant to West Virginia and the Appalachian region, this webinar will show how genealogy can be applied to improve interpretation, encourage heritage tourism, and building public support for preservation efforts.

Blue and Gray Days, a Civil War encampment and reenactment, is coming to Henderson Hall.

The June Backyard Shindig kicks off the weekend on June 18, 7 p.m., featuring Stephen Ball and the music of the Civil War era. Learn more about Goober Peas and many other classics you might not know were inspired by the war.

The encampment gets set up Friday, June 19 with full days of activities on June 20 and 21. Battles, cannons, an anti-tea party and lots of vendors of historic artifacts.
