Tours times: Tuesday-Thursday, 10am, noon, and 2pm. Reservations are required for those times. On Friday and Saturday, drop-in tours are available from 10am-3pm. No reservation required. Henry Overholser was an 1889er who earned the title of "Father of Oklahoma City: as a man of modest wealth who was involved in almost every aspect of the city's growth from 1889-1903. t he was listed in the city directory as "Overholser, H...Capitalist," and that does sum up his career, he was an entrepreneur who built "imposing structures" in the heart of the city; he persuaded the Frisco Railroad to build its line into Oklahoma City instead of Guthrie. In the area of political life, he served as County Commissioner, as County Finance Officer during the Panic of '97, and had been one of the "Committee of Seven" which settled land disputes during April-May, 1889. The State Fair of Oklahoma was another one of his favorite accomplishments. So respected was he that, on the afternoon of his funeral in August 1915, even the city and county offices--as well as the downtown businesses--closed. In 1901, Mr. Overholser bought three city lots on Northwest 15th street, "out in the country" for about $2000 each at the time when the City limits of Oklahoma City ended at around NW 6th Street. The Queen Ann styled mansion is almost 11,000 square feet designed by Kansas City architect, W.S. Matthews, a graduate of Kensington Academy, London. Many items are original to the earliest days of the mansions; several decorative objects were acquired by Mrs. Overholser between 1915 and 1940; some were added during the occupancy of the Perry's.

An update on the preservation projects at the Henry & Anna Overholser Mansion:
Phase 1 of the preservation work will begin soon. The Oklahoma Historical Society, along with Mass Architects and Quad Construction, shared some details of the project.
Phase 1 will include masonry restoration, window restoration, roof restoration and replacement, and new gutters and flashing on the mansion. There will also be window restoration, roof replacement, and masonry restoration on the carriage house.
Mobilization on the site will begin this week, with some site work starting mid-August and masonry beginning in late September. The work is expected to last at least 9 months. Phase 2, which will be interior, is TBD.
During the work, we will strive to be open for tours as much as possible. However, to ensure safety for visitors and space for the work, there may be times when tours aren’t available. We will keep those updates on our social media, as well as take you along on this wonderful project.

The meeting is Thursday, Aug 7. Sorry for the confusion.

The public is invited to attend a community meeting on Thursday, August 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to learn about the capital improvement projects currently underway at the Henry and Anna Overholser Mansion. Leaders from the Oklahoma Historical Society will share updates on ongoing and future preservation efforts and answer questions from community members.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. The event will be held at the Carriage House at the Henry and Anna Overholser Mansion. Registration is not required.
