😎 Celebrating This Week — Happy Birthday, Peter Townend!

This Week We Celebrate Surfing Legend And World Champion Peter Townend — One Of The Most Influential Figures In Modern Surfing History.

Born In Australia, Peter “PT” Townend became the First Official IPS World Champion in 1976 and helped shape the professional surfing world as we know it today. Known for his powerful surfing style, competitive drive, and larger-than-life personality, PT quickly became one of the sport’s most recognizable ambassadors.

Beyond competition, Peter has spent decades giving back to surfing through commentary, mentorship, surf media, coaching, and promoting the sport around the world. His passion for surfing culture and community continues to inspire generations of surfers both in and out of the water.

From world titles to lifelong stoke, Peter Townend’s impact on surfing reaches far beyond the lineup. Thank You, PT, For Helping Build The Foundation Of Professional Surfing And Sharing Your Passion With The World.

Celebrating This Week — Happy Birthday, Joe Willix! 🌊

Joe Willix’s journey through surf culture began long before he ever arrived at the California Surf Museum.

In 1984, his parents founded Action East, the only surf and skate company based in New York City at the time. Soon after, Joe and his brother Jeff were introduced to legendary surf films like The Endless Summer, Five Summer Stories, The Cosmic Children, and Joe’s all-time favorite, Island Magic.

From that moment on, the brothers made it their mission to see every surf movie ever made. After earning a Philosophy degree from Gettysburg College, Joe built a successful professional career spanning publishing, nonprofit work, technology, and energy. Today, he serves as President of SWG Energy.

In 2018, Joe joined the California Surf Museum as a volunteer, bringing with him a passion for preserving surf history. With a closet full of vintage VCRs and years of dedication, he has digitized more than 500 surf film titles over the past 15 years — helping preserve an important part of surf culture for future generations.

Joe currently resides in Oceanside with his wife Curry, spends as much time as possible surfing and kneeboarding, and remains grateful every day to call North County home.

🌺 Happy Birthday, Linda Benson! 🌊

Today We Celebrate A True Pioneer Of Women’s Surfing And One Of The Sport’s Earliest Champions. Linda Benson helped pave the way for generations of women in surfing during a time when few women were recognized in the lineup or in competition.

Growing up in Southern California, Linda became one of the most influential female surfers of the 1950s and 1960s.

She made history by winning the Women’s Division at the prestigious Makaha International Surfing Championships in Hawaii and Was The California Surf Museum’s Silver Surfer Recipient – 2010

Linda’s grace, talent, and fearless spirit helped open doors for women in surfing around the world and her legacy continues to inspire surfers today.

Thank You, Linda, For Helping Shape Surf History And Inspiring Future Generations To Follow Their Dreams In The Ocean. 💙
