Who’s ready to laugh with Good Medicine Comedy?! 🤣 After selling out venues across the country, the smash-hit, all-Native comedy show, Good Medicine, returns to OMCA for the fourth time on 9/12!

Don’t miss this stacked lineup with Brian Bahe (CBS), Cheyenna Sapp (Acting Good), and Marc Yaffee (Showtime) and Jackie Keliiaa (Netflix). Arrive early for live music by White Mountain Apache singer-songwriter Conrad Colelay, food by Wahpepah’s Kitchen, and a Native artisan market featuring handcrafted art and jewelry from Hokuemek, Ihoo Taloowa Beads, and Bazi Beaded It. Film, dance, drums, and $10 gallery access at Spotlight Sundays on 9/20! This event honors the power of multicultural community organizing with a screening of the documentary “Alice Street”. Directed by Spencer Wilkinson the film shows how a neighborhood mural on 14th and Alice Street catalyzed a multiracial coalition to rally in protection of cultural arts and livability in Oakland.

The program will open and close with performances from Malonga Arts Collective, Bantaba Drum Call, and Dimensions Dance Theater. Hosted by Oakland Chinatown organizer Lailan Sandra Huen, this day will help you experience and reflect on the power of multicultural community engagement!

Your $10 ticket also includes admission to explore “Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory”—called "contender for show of the year" by KQED!

Tickets are now on sale for “BeHere / 1942: A New Lens on the Japanese American Incarceration”, opening September 18 in OMCA’s Great Hall!🎟️

Can looking closely at photographs change what we see, know, and feel about history? Japanese artist Masaki Fujihata explores this question through immersive installations, historic photographs, and augmented reality (AR) experiences that bring visitors into the moments of 1942—before Japanese Americans in Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles were forcibly incarcerated during World War II.

Created by the Yanai Initiative at UCLA and presented at the Japanese American National Museum in 2022, OMCA’s presentation features new Bay Area elements, including installations drawn from Dorothea Lange’s photographs of Oakland and San Francisco, a new three-screen video featuring local residents, and an AR experience in Oak Street Plaza.

Step inside “Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory”, the first major museum exhibition celebrating the work of beloved Bay Area artist Mildred Howard. Spanning five decades of her practice, the exhibition brings together Howard’s collages, found-object sculptures, immersive installations, and never-before-seen works exploring memory, identity, and the African American experience.

A lifelong East Bay resident, Howard’s work connects personal and collective histories—from her family’s roots in the Great Migration to overlooked stories of Black life across the Bay Area. Come experience her vibrant, poetic world for yourself.
