Dance Mission Theater exemplifies excellence in its dedication to community enrichment and transformative endeavors. Each of my visits to this venue proved to be a therapeutic experience. While I engaged in the meticulous task of fence construction, I often found myself captivated by the sight of contemporary dancers gracefully navigating the staircase, their movements harmonizing with the sublime melodies emanating from live fiddlers and musicians performing in the round.
The genesis of this fence project is rooted in the metaphorical interpretation of seclusion or exclusion. This concept was inspired by a theatrical piece documented centuries ago, in Norway, yet it resonates profoundly within the same context that envelops us in the present.
In its current adaptation, Christian Andersen's classic tale, 'The Little Match Girl,' is reimagined as a haunting narrative set against a backdrop of frigid streets and the starkness of steel-shuttered doors and windows, symbolizing societal exclusion. This rendition serves as a compelling invitation to shift our collective perspective, urging us to traverse the metaphorical fence with bravery in a tumultuous world. I fervently encourage your support for this play, either through donations online or by attending a performance of 'Match Gurrrl' this winter season :: Dance Mission Theater :: 🎭 —oh yeah! I made the fence! 😎
