SLATE Contemporary Gallery is a retail gallery, show room, and exhibition venue in Oakland, CA, where we feature the artists on the gallery’s roster. The gallery is known for its emphasis on abstract painting and photography, but also features figurative, landscape, nature-based work, as well as mixed media and sculpture. Sister company SLATE Art Consulting's mission is to create opportunities for people to live, work, and engage with art that delights and stimulates the mind and senses, inspires creativity and innovation, and expresses individual taste and values. Working with our clients to understand their goals and values, we curate art collections that tell a larger story.

See SLATE Artist Hannah Franco's () work at the Fall pop-up exhibition at Oxide Collective (.collective) beginning tomorrow Oct 16 through October 25!

The pop-up features 11 local female artists, at TINT Gallery in Hayes Valley, San Francisco - 149 Gough Street, San Francisco CA.

The show reception will be this Saturday, October 17. Visit the exhibition daily until the 25th from 12-7pm.

Last weekend, Danielle Fox joined SLATE Artist Kim Manfredi () at the opening of her solo exhibition: "View with a Grain of Sand" at the Laguna Art Museum ().

"View with a Grain of Sand is an exhibition of paintings that explores perception, landscape and the human desire to impose meaning on the natural world. The works draw from direct observation of elemental phenomena, transforming place into an abstract visual language. Using color layered with drips, bleeds and oversprays, the paintings evoke the vitality and unpredictability of nature. Fragmentation within the compositions reflects humanity’s imprint on the environment while also offering moments of visual play." - Laguna Art Museum

SLATE is excited to invite you to our Artist's Reception for "Angela Johal: Intersecting Colour," this Saturday, October 10! Join us from 4-6pm at our Oakland gallery for a first look at our latest exhibition and the chance to meet Johal.

Steeped in color theory, Johal’s paintings are interactive and reveal much for the viewer to discover: illusions of transparency and layering created by the blending of adjacent colors; a sense of three-dimensionality, where shapes recede or float to the surface; optical effects where colors appear to jump to opposite ends of neighboring shapes, creating visible color gradations; and halo effects that appear along the hard edges where two colors meet.

Today is the final day of Hannah Franco: Poiesis, and we wanted to share a few lovely photos from our Artist’s Reception on September 12. We loved welcoming the community into our space and seeing Hannah speak with so many visitors.

In Angela Johal's solo exhibition, Intersecting Colour, Johal invites viewers to explore how hue and tone interact across vividly painted color fields. Johal approaches each painting as a puzzle to solve, seeking balance among dichotomous realms—physical and spiritual, light and dark, vivid and subdued—creating compositions that reveal how each color shifts, responds to, and is transformed by those around it.
